Frida's Restaurant Bar — Restaurant in San Miguel de Cozumel

Visitors be ware… the host/server (the one with a red lip tattoo behind his left ear) practically begged us to come eat/drink at this restaurant. He said “sex w/a waiter or sec on the sidewalk was available along w/a free pair of silver earrings”. Neither of which my friend and I were interested in in any manner. Only sharing in case these are common lines used on others. The issue is this - $50 bill comes and we only ordered pico, guacamole, chips, and two margarita. PERIOD!! My friend paid the bill while I was in the restroom or I would have questioned it thoroughly. I’ve been charged to use the bathroom in Mexico before… be Geesh… that was one expensive hour at Frida’s regardless of using the bathroom. This is a great spot, the staff are very friendly and they make real margaritas unlike many other places that only use a mix. I was also really happy to find out this restaurant sells reusable straws. Plastic straws are terrible for the environment used once and thrown away quite often they end up in the ocean. We had already eaten dinner however we visited here a few hours after dinner and wanted something small. We tried their french fries known as papas fritas In Mexico. Wow they tasted great just like at the baseball games back home. My margarita was great too. This is an excellent spot to watch the evening water shows and enjoy the sounds of the square. SCAM for tourists. Pay attention if the owner offers you "their special fish", because you will overpay it.

We looked into the menu before we entered the restaurant. THe most expensive fish was around 25$. We decided to sit and eat there. The owner approached us and told us he has the best fish, very good, 400 grams a portion, etc. We got the fish, taste is nothing special, NOT 400GRAMS BUT MUCH LESS, small portion. But the biggest scam was that it costed us 60 $ for one fish??? Only one meal, small portion 60$!! Of course we didn't want to pay this amount of money, because the most expensive thing in the menu didn't cost that much, so the owner gave us 50% discount. It's a shame what they try to do...
