The night calm and the rays of the sunset's last efforts were still on my mind as I strolled the boardwalk of CZM. How could life be any better, I thought to myself. There was one thing I was still missing, and its absence burned in my soul like the skin of so many unprepared beachgoers. I needed sustenance, and fast. My reserves were desperately low after a day snorkeling and philandering, and no ordinary meal was going to do the trick. I found a local and called to him, "¿Hola caballero, donde esta la mejor comida?"
He looked at me with a knowing glance and in perfect English said, "I know what you seek and why you seek it. Tell me traveler, do you know of The Casa"?
"The Casa?!" I said incredulously. "I think you're confused. I'm not looking for my house but a wonderful journey of the senses through the medium of food."
He leaned in close to my ear and whispered, "Casa Cuzamil, the place where culinary dreams come true and vampires perish."
I asked for the location and he turned to set me on the path. After looking, I turned back to thank him but he had vanished in the night. Odd, and what was that part about vampires?!
Upon arrival I was greeted with a smile from Jairo, a barrage of sports, and a scent that was both scintillating and full of intrigue.
I was recommended the Aguachiles by a stunning young woman at the bar named Joz. This concoction of edibles was the cure to my plight.
After I was thoroughly imbued with beverage and merriment I met another gentleman, Asa. He seemed.... different than the rest. A high-powered mutant of some kind, never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.
I asked him, "I heard vampires go here to perish. What's that all about?" As he came closer, the room seemed to grow darker and smaller.
"For which side of the battle of day and night do you fight?" He asked me with a look of concern. "I have no idea what you're talking about; but I'm interested". I replied. "Walk in the light and eat plenty of garlic," he responded with a wink and a smile. "Speaking of which... have you tried our garlic shrimp? Here, have some on the house".
I looked at my once empty plate to see that two garlic shrimp had been summoned to existence by this man of mystery. "Gracias hermano y mucho gusto" I said upon leaving.
I have since returned to my homeland but I often wonder, "what's really going on at the Casa? Do I dare return?!" I believe I will, but this time....I will be ready to fight alongside the crusaders of the day.
10/10 would recommend for a night of drinks, eats, and...
Read moreHell yes brother! Ojo Rojo + Aguachiles = I need a new pair of underwear! (In a good way!)
Let me preface this review. I have been to a lot of places all over Mexico. (Cancun, Playa, Tulum, Key Cocker) and this place is the best mexican food I have had. Period.
While I am a more adventurous eater, some of my travel buddies stick with the basics. And they all slammed their nachos, fajitas, and hamburgers. So, great food. Check. How bout the drinks?!? Bomb.com. House marg slaps hard. Ojo Rojo, yes please. And since no one is driving anywhere on that island, the margarita train keeps on rolling until the wheels fall off if you know what I’m saying…
But the best part about the place is the vibe. No judgements, no worries, just chill good times. This is the type of place I want to spend my down time just shooting the breeze with the regulars and the turistas. One guy, locally known as “el gallo loco” (the crazy rooster en español) frequents this spot, and if you buy him a beer, he will do amazing animal impersonations/sound effects with his voice. Of course he is best known for his rooster call… obvs, but if you know a little spanish and have an open tab, your imagination is the limit. He should be known as “the friendly dolphin” or the “the pinchy crab” Had our whole crew cracking up with his shenanigans.
All and all, A+, 10/10, my first stop when i get to the island, my last stop the night before I leave. Love this place. When I die, creamate me, pour my ashes into a monster Ojo Rojo and have all my friends drink me. Is that weird? Yeah?! Well you get the idea, I...
Read moreAhhh… sooo.. we were in Cozumel for a very short time and ended up here twice! There were four of us looking for a late night dinner the first time. They were closing up shop and had about 10 min before the kitchen closed and invited us in with open arms. We were a little rowdy as well. The servers were very understanding and just laughed us off! VERY much appreciated… we’re from the states.. and I would say we definitely would not have had the understanding we had here!
Second time there, Same group of us.. 4 ppl. We brought raw fish for them to cook for us..you choose a few sides you want and they charge a small fee to prepare it. Absolutely worth it. We purchased 4 cocktails.. and had them cook the fish (see pics w/requested side dishes). Bill was about $50 US before...
