La Mezcalteca — Restaurant in San Miguel de Cozumel

We were stoked to find somewhere on the island that had pulque, a drink of the Aztecs, and were presently surprised we liked it better than what we had in Mexico City! Our server, Sonia, was such a sweet delight, she was happy to answer all of our questions about pulque, Mexican history, and the island of Cozumel. I stuck with coconut which had tiny bits of coconut to enjoy at the end, but every flavored we tried was delicious. An added bonus of roasted and spiced nuts were served with our drinks to nibble on while enjoying our beverages. This was the coolest bar we found on our trip to Mexico. Hip and unpretentious atmosphere with a super fun vibe and staff. Everyone who was working there was really nice and seemed to be enjoying themselves. Service was smooth and attentive. They have lots of mezcal to try including fruity and interesting exotic ones. Our group went back multiple times and every time was consistently great. If this bar was in my hometown I would frequent it weekly. Super chill atmosphere. Perfect mix of authentic & modern. The owner took great care in creating his vibe: from decor, murals, lighting, seating areas, - especially music - and professionalism of staff.
