I walked in tonight because I was looking forward to getting the Portobello burger, which was really yummy, only to find it had been taken off the menu and replaced by a vegetarian burger. To be precise, a falafel patty.. WOW.. that's creative.. really.. no place ever came up with that .. ! Anyway.. so I decided to try it. it's €4,95 and has 3 slices of pickles on it, 1 slice of tomato, couple of leaves of lettuce and some garlic sauce. choice of whole wheat or white bun. add-ons are steeply priced but I decide to spruce it up with a fried egg and a slice of cheddar cheese.. and some fries, I have to buy the sauce on top.. After I pay almost €11,- ( no drink ) I get an electronic vibrator that will let me know when my order is ready to pick up at the counter. So .. I sit down and watch the two people behind the counter work. The lady who took my order disappears and the cook is left alone in the kitchen. About six customers in the place and some of them are eating.. So.. I see about four orders being prepared through the glass that separates me from the open kitchen. The cook, who is working the grill plate wears black gloves for hygiene. So did the lady who took my money and worked the cash register. She went from handeling the money and register, straight to grabbing some plates for the orders to be be served on. When she is gone I watch the cook carefully weigh the raw meat with his gloved hands and skillfully pushing the meat into metal rings which make them perfectly round patties. he throws them on the grill and moves over to the containers where the buns are stored. Reaches in with his meaty hands, grabs a couple and slices them open with a breadknife. opens them up and puts them on the set plates and goes straight back to the grill to flip the burgers with two spatulas which are also used for the vegetarian patty that is supposed to be for me. when I see this happen I decide to confront the cook with what he just did , a serious health code violation. he denies this and says that he changes gloves often. So I repeat what I just witnessed and explain again that you don't handle raw meat and then grab other food items that will be eaten without being cooked nor handle cutlery or utensils which also are used by the other employees who dip in the salad and other veggies. Cross-contamination all over the kitchen. he falls silent and acts a little nervous. the lady is back.. busy with the fries. out of the fat they come.. salted and into three different bowls. one is set aside. I see the cook crack an egg on the grill plate ... it bakes and bakes and bakes.. for a long long time and finally placed on my patty that is baking in the corner of the grill.. next to it lie sizzling, different burgers and sausages. No separate area for the vegetarian patty. . finally after about 20 minutes the simple burger is ready. My vibrator lights up and glides over the table. As I pick it up and walk to the counter I see the gloved registerlady, who also used those same hands to add all the toppings, "fresh" from the saladbar, with those fingers, to the burgers, she places the fries which were waiting there for more then ten minutes next to my burger and smiles when she hands it to me. I ask her to replace the cold fries for hot ones and she does this right away. I take my plate and sit down, reluctant to eat it.. I do this anyway cause I'm very hungry but I'm contious of every bite and the images of what just happened go through my mind. The patty tastes strong of curry .. and is mushy. the fried egg is very overcooked and tough to bite. Hardly any sauce on the bun. the fries are undercooked but hot. as I eat more staff enters the open kitchen and I see them use and change sets of gloves several times. useless because the bacteria are all over the kitchen already. All in all a total disappointment. The food and the experience. they've lost me...
Read moreTerrible service, once again!
Came here about 5 months ago for lunch before work, the service was bad and slow. Me and my collegues asked for a burguer menu with some extras, with fries and a drink.
The staff in the kitchen confused the order and ended up overcharging us only 50 cents for the wrong bread, and messing up the rest of the order.
No apology or refund at the moment which was a bit unprofessional for a big burger chain.
Went back again with the same group of people. My colleague asked her order first and I said '' make two", which I believe means that we want two of the same order right?!?
According to the employers of burger bar that means its one burguer and 2 portions of fries. When we asked about the second burguer, the same employer that took our order immediately said that we ordered only once pointing at the menu above him when asked how is it possible to pay so much over some fries.
Disgusting attitude and smug face, work presence was clearly wrong. When asked about the management the same employer almost refused to ask, only saying is there every morning. I refuse to accept that this is the kind of training the companies are giving in Amsterdam since I'm also working at horeca in the same city.
assuming everyone that walks inside your establishment is a tourist is disgusting. Trying to lie and deceive your clients is also very wrong.
Will come back to find the...
Read moreAlthough I wanted to give this review only one star, to be honest, it's a place where you can eat one of the best burgers in Amsterdam — I just hope the owner takes action regarding the service provided by the staff. Today I was extremely disappointed with my visit to this place, even though I’ve been coming here for over two years specifically for their XL burger. I ordered it again today and made it very clear that I wanted the meat cooked rare — just slightly done. I’m fully aware that their standard is medium-well, but as a loyal customer, I politely asked for this small change.
The person who took my order was understanding and even marked it correctly on the ticket. However, the chef completely disregarded my request and cooked the burger well-done anyway. When I pointed this out, the chef responded in a rude and dismissive way, telling me “these are the owner's rules” and that he “won’t risk losing his job because of me.” Honestly, a ridiculous excuse — I wasn’t asking for anything extreme, and I almost begged him to just cook it slightly less.
Instead of offering to fix the mistake, he coldly said he would just refund the burger, and that was it. No apology, no effort to make it right.
Very unprofessional, and definitely not the experience I’ve come to expect after being a loyal customer...
