We were really looking forward to check this place out and what all the hype is about.
It was definitely not the worst place I have been to, having travelled all over the world, but it comes very low on the list.
Arriving a little early, we sat down by the bar and ordered a drink each. Shortly after, the three of us were shown a nice table inside. We took our drinks to the table. Unfortunately it's all down hill from here.
After taking our initial order we were suddenly asked to move to another table. A very small table suitable for only two people. They had over booked. We didn't want to let this stop our evening so we agreed politely. After this it was like we “disappeared” for them. The waitress seemed more interested in helping the other clientele and even though we asked for help we only got a rude nod and had to wait for 30 minutes before we got any help. We asked politely for the drink menu. Our pre drinks were finished a long time ago now and we wanted to have a refill before the main courses were served.
Eventually, we were served our main courses from another waiter but not at the same time at all. This caused some of us having to wait without drinks or food while our friend nearly finished the main course before the rest of us could join in. Still no drinks, refills of water or refreshments of any kind, for anyone of us. Just when our dinner was almost fully done did we receive the drink menu.
I rarely review anything but I feel this really isn't worth the hype. Unfortunately I believe the restaurant is becoming too popular because of social media and therefore the constant flow of guests which again makes them loose touch with their guests on a genuine level.
Lastly, I want to point out that they charge double the price as several of the other restaurants we have been to in Amsterdam. For double the price we expect double the service and excellence thereafter. They did not deliver. Taking all this into account I feel this...
Read moreI’ll start off by saying the food was very good. 5 stars. However, a bartender/server totally ruined the entire experience. I don’t know his name but he mentioned he was Greek. He was extremely rude. My fiancé was being very sweet and was met with rude remark after rude remark. He made us feel VERY unwelcome. Meanwhile, the rest of the staff was very nice. This rude server was not only mean to us, but his coworker as well. Crumbling up receipts in his face when he got something wrong, and rolling his eyes. It was was very uncomfortable for everyone at the bar. I mentioned my fiancé and I were visiting Greece on our vacation, and he asked, “why?” In a rude way, as if to imply that we were not worthy of visiting his country. And then he proceeded to insult the places that we chose to visit (paros and athens). When getting us the check (after rudely crumbling the original in his coworkers face) my fiancé said, “thank you so much, take your time!” To which he responded, “yes I will take my time, you take your time” in a very rude and mocking manner. Just angry and rude the entire meal. I really hope the owner of this restaurant looks into this guys behavior for his or her sake, because I would never in a million years hire someone like this to work for my restaurant. What could have been an incredible experience thanks to the great food and otherwise service, became such a negative experience on our vacation that we worked hard for. All because of one...
Read moreVery great tasting pizza’s. We choose this place to celebrate the birthday of my daughter (she was there a year ago, and had Mezcal) and she knew that this was a great place to celebrate with the four of us. The place is found on the outskirts of the restaurant’s at the Leidseplein area. But that extra 1 minute walk is worth it. We ordered two pizza to share with some appetizers. Both the appetizers and the pizza were amazingly good. Also the single glasses wine were great. They have an amazingly great wine selection you don’t expect in a Italian restaurant near Leidseplein. The choices were bottle based. Back to the Pizza: the taste is great but also the choices of flavors on the pizza is amazing. Till now one of the best pizza’s I ever had in Amsterdam. I recommend the dessert menu and choose one (or two) after your dinner/lunch. We asked for Mezcal but the waiter asked the barman and they were sorry because they didn’t had it. When leaving the restaurant we talked to the (real) barman and he had Mezcal. So before really leaving Ceppi’s, with our coats on, we had some Mezcal. Mezcal is a very smoky tasting tequila.
They have an amazing pizza oven you have to see in action. Pizza’s are made according the Napolitano tradition. Pricewise it’s not a cheap Italian restaurant but the food exceeds the price so give it a try. I’ll come back to this place for sure. Order your place in advance because it’s...
