My partner and I visited De Italiaan on a recent trip to Amsterdam. We heard about the restaurant via a YouTube video featuring gluten-free restaurants. We were unable to make a reservation online due to technical issues with their website and translating it, so we decided to just show up.
We went for dinner around 6:15pm, and when we arrived it seemed to be a struggle to find us a table. We were told a table was available, but it was reserved at 7:00 so we had to leave by then. We agreed to this table. While we were aware of the time crunch, our waiter reminded us on a few occasions which was a bit off putting. I also went inside at one point, and every table inside was empty...this made me a bit confused as we would have been happy to eat inside, but were not given the option.
We ordered two gluten free pizza's to share. They were both very good - quality Italian pizza and great gluten free crust.
I would recommend De Italiaan to any Celiac's in Amsterdam wanting quality pizza, however, make a reservation! That way you won't have to deal wth any of the unpleasantries...
Read moreThe restaurant is to be rated at 4,5+ I consider that the 4.3 at the reviews is not representative. Excellent option for Italian food. Found it accidentally. The service was good. Only one comment that may not be culturally appropriate, is when I accidentally spilled my wine all over the place. In my country, Greece, you would normally get a free refill on the house, which was not the case in Amsterdam. The bruschetta, was good, however the goat cheese was extremely mild tasted. The pasta with the truffle and the pizza with asparagus were both really, very good. The pizza crust was excellent! We also got a tiramisu, which we found it to be very fresh and had a really balanced taste. We paid 95€ for 5 glasses of wine, one bruschetta, one pizza, one pasta and a tiramisu, which we consider to be fair priced for Amsterdam, based on our experience, here so far. We would easily...
Read moreWe've had lunch here a day ago. Chose this restaurant after going through the reviews here. Bad idea. The waitress who served us was rude from the first interaction. Asked for table inside and we got a reply that "well I have no tables". Behaved as if she could care less of we wanted to eat there or not. We waited , on the terrace, rainy day, around 10 - 15 minutes to only be told "well you can sit anywhere you want on the terrace". Waited for yet another 10 minutes to be given menus. No non-alcoholic drink menu. Asked the waitress what hot beverages they had if any - "well coffee and tea?.." as if we should've already known or maybe as if we should've imagined that's everything they serve hot... 1/3 of menu is in Italian, 1/3 in Dutch, 1/3 in English. Pizza was greasy and very wet. Just go...
