⭐️ Review: Prix d’Ami Coffeeshop – Amsterdam I recently visited Prix d’Ami and want to share my full, honest impression.
Upon entering, security immediately asked to check the contents of our bags. It wasn’t a deep search – more of a quick check to see if we had any drinks with us. Understandable, but the tone felt more like entering a nightclub than a coffeeshop.
We bought cannabis worth €25 and headed upstairs to sit down. Within minutes, a young waitress approached us and informed us that each person had to order a drink – even though we had just made a fairly substantial purchase. There were no signs or visible notices about this policy. Of course, no one is forced to stay, but once you’ve bought your product, you naturally want to enjoy it calmly in a relaxed environment.
On a previous visit, I had a less pleasant experience. After several coffeeshop stops, I was clearly high – and instead of handling it professionally, one staff member joked about my state with his colleague and then dropped my product on the counter in a cold, dismissive way. It left a bitter taste.
The upstairs area itself is technically comfortable – long couches around shared tables. But you're sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers, and getting to a seat often involves squeezing past others or being squeezed past. It’s very social, but not everyone enjoys that. The atmosphere overall feels more like a club that happens to sell weed instead of alcohol – loud music, UV lights, and security staff with a nightclub attitude.
That said, there are some genuinely useful features. Lockers with phone chargers (for a small fee) are available and practical. There are also open storage areas for jackets and bags, though I didn’t notice any real system of supervision – meaning, in theory, anyone could just grab someone else's belongings.
As for pricing and product selection, it's difficult to say much definitively – the sheer amount of strains and lack of clear comparisons make it difficult to assess value. But it’s fair to assume that a popular, tourist-heavy coffeeshop like this will naturally be more expensive than local, low-key alternatives.
However, there was a positive highlight: I tried a pre-rolled joint with pollen or extract on the outside, and it was one of the strongest, best-rolled joints I’ve had in a while. Really enjoyable. We also purchased mini cupcakes (three for €10, each containing ~33% THC), and even as experienced users, my girlfriend and I clearly felt the effects. On top of that, they were surprisingly delicious – soft, not too sweet, and well-made.
So, despite the issues with atmosphere and service, I would consider coming back – but with clear expectations. I wouldn't treat it as a place to relax or hang out for long. More like:
Come in, buy what you want (maybe grab a cupcake), and head out if the energy isn’t right.
If the operator of Prix d’Ami is interested in offering more than just a high-turnover tourist spot – and instead aims to create a consistent and thoughtful guest experience – this place could become something truly memorable.
From a customer perspective, and with some experience in hospitality myself, I’d say there’s clear room for improvement:
Friendlier, more professional service
Clear, visible house rules
A more welcoming general tone at the door and inside
Even with limited space or busy surroundings, a good atmosphere can be created through intention, consistency, and respectful interaction. The potential is there – what’s missing is structure and care.
TL;DR: ✅ Potent pre-rolled joints & tasty cupcakes
✅ Phone-charging lockers available
✅ Super central, close to train station
❌ Unfriendly or careless staff interactions
❌ No clear rules about drink requirements
❌ Crowded, nightclub-like atmosphere
❌ Not ideal for relaxation or first-time users
Overall: A coffeeshop worth mentioning – but not one I'd recommend without a few warnings. Great products, questionable vibe. Final rating: 2...
Read moreI had an incredibly unpleasant experience at Prix d'Ami, and I feel compelled to share it to help others make an informed decision.
We visited the coffeeshop at around 8 AM after celebrating New Year’s, hoping to relax and unwind before heading home. However, what should have been a simple, enjoyable visit turned into a frustrating and unnecessarily hostile encounter.
Upon arrival, our group entered the premises, but we soon realized one of our friends had not been allowed in. When I went to check on the situation, I found out that she was denied entry because she had fireworks in her bag – which, understandably, was against their policy. We politely asked if it would be possible to leave them at the entrance or in a locker. The security guard responded with unnecessary aggression, outright refusing and insisting they be discarded immediately. We complied without issue and disposed of them.
Afterwards, as I attempted to re-enter, the same security guard stopped me, suddenly accusing me of being intoxicated and claiming I had "too much substance in my body." His reasoning? I was chewing gum – something he bizarrely interpreted as evidence of drug use. Despite the absurdity of the accusation, I calmly explained that I had already been inside, and he had let me in previously without any concern.
What followed was even more bewildering. I asked if I could inform my friends that we would be leaving, and he agreed. However, as soon as I began walking upstairs, he aggressively intervened again, demanding to know where I thought I was going. After reminding him that he had just given me permission, he hesitated, then allowed me to proceed.
I had barely begun explaining the situation to my friends when the same guard appeared, loudly insisting that I leave immediately. I asked for a moment to inform my group, but he rudely dismissed the request, repeatedly interrupting and even physically pushing me towards the exit.
At this point, I requested to speak with a manager, hoping to de-escalate the situation. His response was both shocking and unprofessional – he claimed he was the manager and went so far as to taunt me, encouraging me to “push him and start a fight.” I refused to engage at his level, opting instead to leave while he followed closely behind, acting as if he were ready to escalate further.
For a venue located in the heart of Amsterdam, I find it appalling that such individuals are entrusted to manage customer interactions. The hostility, lack of professionalism, and outright aggression demonstrated by security left a lasting negative impression.
I cannot recommend Prix d'Ami to anyone. Beyond the unpleasant staff, the overall experience felt overpriced and unwelcoming. There are many other establishments in Amsterdam that offer a far more enjoyable and...
Read moreI had visited Amsterdam a few times in recent months and was excited to explore good food options. On a previous visit to this place, I had a decent experience. Regrettably, this time, nearing the end of my trip, it turned out to be quite disappointing. The initial impression was positive – the bouncers were welcoming, and the place was bustling. However, things took a turn at the counter. Upon requesting a pre-roll, the server attempted to charge me. When my card supposedly didn't work, the server didn't communicate this issue. Later, when asking for an additional pre-roll, the attempt to charge €50 instead of €18.50 led to a heated and unprofessional confrontation. The server's behavior was shocking and unacceptable, pushing me and insisting I return the pre-rolls, despite the payments being approved.
Moving upstairs, the lack of guidance to our table for about 5 minutes was inconvenient. The seating arrangements were inadequate, forcing two of us to stand as the table offered space for only two despite our group of four. Despite our requests for a suitable table, the staff's suggestion to squish together on an already crowded table was unsatisfactory.
Additionally, the behavior of the staff taking our orders for drinks and snacks was odd for a coffee shop setting. Their distant approach, along with fleeing from the order-taking due to nearby smoking, was unexpected and left us feeling uncomfortable. This overall experience was disconcerting, prompting us to leave.
While the coffee shop itself may be good, the behavior and service from the staff were significantly disappointing. Despite previous enjoyable visits, I'm hesitant to patronize this establishment again. It's truly...
