To begin with I can recommend this restaurant, it is really a nice experiance with delicious food, but do not expect perfection. Compared to restaurants on the same level I have to deduct 2 stars because the food is not really special and the service is from mixed quality.
The first star I deduct is because the food is good however not really a revelation. We had the chefs surprise menu for 45€ and 5 courses and asked for wine pairing which day don't normally have but managed to do really well for us. There was nothing that really hit us with the menu, you could say it was average. They had some interesting things with mushoom ice and seaweedsalade in pork consomme but we found it didnt really fit.
Scond star I deduct becaus of the mixed service level througout the 5 courses. Sometimes the waiters were spending a lot of attention, especially the guy who was responsible for the wine. When a glas was empty and the next dish would arrive he came right on time to intorduce the next suitable wine and tried to match our taste. Sometimes the waiters however did not spend attention, for insance in the begining when we sat at the bar and wanted an appetizer but no-one would ask us which one even when they before gave us the menu. And at the end, after several times the waiters at our tabe switched they didnt know anymore we had the chefs menu and we need to explain it politely two times. Additionally we asked for fish as main dish in advance but they forgot. Seems they dont talk to each other. However in general the staff was...
Read moreWe decided to go with the 5-course chef’s menu, trusting that the chef would bring out the best of each dish.
The dining space is open and spacious, yet still feels cozy and welcoming. The restaurant is located in a quiet area, and we were lucky to find a parking spot right in front of the entrance, which made things even more convenient.
One of the highlights of the evening was the staff. They were friendly, smiley, and seemed genuinely happy to be there — it created a warm, relaxed vibe that we really appreciated.
The non-alcoholic drink options were quite limited. We had to ask, and the staff just listed what they had. It would be a great idea to introduce a special seasonal house drink for guests who prefer not to have alcohol with their meal.
Most of the dishes were well-prepared. One of them included lamb with turnip — the lamb was good, just a bit chewy, but the turnip had a strong bitter taste that didn’t quite work for us.
The asparagus was full of flavor. However, we found that the zeekraal (samphire) on top was a bit too much and didn’t pair well with the asparagus. But that’s just our personal taste — so don’t take it at face value; you might enjoy it more than we did.
Our favorite dish of the evening was the fresh halibut. There was no fishy taste or smell at all — just clean, fresh, and super tasty. The dessert was also light and refreshing, a great way to end the meal.
If we had to point out one downside, it would be the pacing. We spent almost 3 hours at the table for 5 courses, which felt a...
Read moreWe spend an evening here and I found it was a nice experience but very overestimated and far too expensive for what you get. I would not recommend.
You can choose beetween 3 variants for each course with or without fish/meat a la carte or you can choose a 4, 5 or 6 course menue and let the restaurant decide, what you get. But anyway you get courses from the a la carte menu The portions are small, very small and you have to order bread to avoid leaving hungry.
What I disliked most:
Nice and quiet atmosphere inside although it is a big hall.
If you should not go there, you will not...
