I usually go to a smaller Takumi, but was with a larger group, so the food was very good as expected. The ramen I ordered this time (black garlic) did miss a bit of kick, so a bottle of soy on the table would have been nice to have.
All in all, we had a nice evening, the food got delivered at a pretty random pace, but generally quite fast.
However, one of my friends, who ordered first, ordered a chicken gyoza dish. After everyone had all their food, including the veggie gyoza we ordered, he was still waiting for that. As it didn’t seem to be coming, we asked the waitress about it. She said there was no order in for chicken gyoza. Can happen, there were 7 of us, so things can be missed. So we ordered them again anyway.
A bit later the order arrived (chicken gyoza with rice) and then later again chicken gyoza. It led to a bit of confusion, but the waitress pointed out that chicken gyoza on rice is something very different from chicken gyoza, so of course there’s no way she could have figured that’s what he was referring to. Even though she’s literally the one that took his order in the first place.
Now, I don’t blame her for not putting two and two together on this one. I’m sure it was busy, so it can be hard to fully keep track on these things. We still took the extra gyozas and they were delicious. What I did not appreciate, was the snarky way she told my friend how having rice with the dumplings made it an entirely different order. Miscommunications happen, but she was very rude about it, which there really was no reason for. We were respectful and understanding when under the impression that you missed our order, yet this is how you respond? Not okay, there’s really other ways to explain the situation, without talking to a middle aged man like he’s a toddler that misbehaved.
Besides that staff was nice and friendly, but that interaction just felt very uncalled for and...
Read moreUPDATED REVIEW (in response to owner’s reply): After reading the response to my original review, I feel the need to update it. The restaurant tries to justify the bad quality by saying that fried food naturally gets soggy in a takeaway box after 15 minutes. This is simply not true in my case. I placed the order in person at the restaurant, and we opened the food within 10–15 minutes, just a short walk away in Vondelpark. Despite the short time, the chicken was completely soggy, soaked in oil, and tasted awful — as if it had been pre-cooked earlier and reheated for takeaway. This wasn’t just about it not being “crispy,” it was genuinely unpleasant to eat.
The appearance of the dish was nothing like the photos shown on the menu. What’s worse is that instead of acknowledging the issue, the restaurant replies with a sarcastic tone, asking me to name the “magic restaurant” where takeaway fried food stays beautiful. That’s an unprofessional and dismissive attitude towards honest feedback.
I paid €13.80 for food that went straight into the trash. I regret trusting the Google reviews. Based on both the food and the disrespectful response, I absolutely do not recommend this place.
(On June 15th at 17:09, we placed a takeaway order for karaage directly at the Takumi Umaimon restaurant. The order was prepared quickly, but that was the only positive part of the experience. About 15 minutes later, when we opened the food to eat, we were extremely disappointed. The chicken pieces were soaked in oil, not crispy at all, and didn’t look fresh. I took one bite and all I could taste was stale, greasy oil. We had to throw almost all of it away. We paid €13.80 for something completely inedible. On top of that, the food looked nothing like the pictures on the menu or online. We trusted the good Google reviews, but it turned out to be a big mistake. I absolutely do not recommend this...
