Terrazen Centre, within a 6min walk from the central station, might be my favourite restaurant of all time. Entering the small building, the colourful furniture and wall decorations as well as the rocksteady music vibes from the disco model JBL speaker already promise you a laidback and vibrant experience. The friendly staff fits the atmosphere well, meaning that you might have to wait a little longer to order or to get your drinks, but Terrazen is not meant to be experienced in a rush or impatient mood. The chalkboard or clipboard menu offers a wide range of exciting Japanese or Jamaican inspired dishes that are impossible to experience in one visit. The ramen I ordered here the first time is unmatched, I haven't found any other ramen in other establishments that was as flavourful as this one. Unfortunately it was always unavailable during my next few visits. Which on the other hand is a good thing, otherwise I would have never tried their dragon sushi roll, Jamaican plate, crispy roti roll or okonomiyaki. Piece by piece exquisite dishes that you have to come back for. One notably good side dish is the jackfruit karaage, which makes you yearn for more. Even though the food is high in greasy or fried ingredients, it is a journey of flavours and textures unlikely to find in other places. If you are looking for a sophisticated and luxurious dining experience with a quick and skilful service you should save that for another time and instead go for this low-key, but vibrant and inspiriting experience that is a guaranteed pleasure for your tastebuds.

To describe the whole experience: meh I had the Chicken and Crips, looks very good The chicken was very rubbery and flavorless. Fries were served cold, which I find very impressive because how do you even do that? Upon asking the waiter he first had the audacity to tell me "how is that possible? we serve warm!". So they basically can't handle any criticism and don't believe their customers. Which after he said "that's how we serve it, if you don't like it that's you" I asked for a refund, only on a drink because I want to support local people, he said no you ordered it so you have to pay. After haggling a bit more, the waiter went to get an older woman (not old as in old, you looked beautiful!"), after a bit more of discussing I could get the €2.20 off! 🎉 I won't be coming here anymore and I also won't be recommending it to anyone. A lot of people seem to like you so it shouldn't have an effect on you anyway so who cares. TL;DR: Staff was nice at the start, food looked good but tasted meh. Staff turned out to be a little bit money grabbing and rude. Not coming back here. Have a good life

Don’t be fooled by the nondescript appearance from the outside. The food and service is top notch. The samosas were a vibrant new take on the dish that I’d never seen before, bite size, crunchy outside chewy inside, yet the flavor remained refreshingly authentic. The crispy roti wrap was similar in the sense where I could taste the homage to the traditional rotis I’ve had, but the style and flavors were fresh and modern. The “chicken” inside was authentic tasting and moist and crispy. I took one star off atmosphere only because they could probably use a refresher, as this was the only thing deterring me from trying the restaurant sooner, and I wish I had. I love the quirky character of the design as it feels warm and unique, but I feel like even a small renovation could go a long way. Or maybe keep it the same so the place doesn’t become too popular?😜 But I’m splitting hairs on what’s already a solid restaurant. Will definitely be back to try more dishes. Highly recommend for vegans and non vegans alike.

Sadly my experience was nothing like the ones I've read here. I visited with two non vegan friends on a Sunday evening and sat down at 9.20pm. Friends ordered a veggie burger and the non dog, I asked for a fish burger. I was told immediately that the fish burger was no longer available, not a problem, I ordered nachos instead. We also ordered a smoothie, chocolate milkshake and a cashew milkshake, as well as a side of sweet potato fries to go with the burger. After 15 minutes, a 2/3 full glass arrived, the cashew milkshake that tasted like coconut milk with crushed cashews. Ok, I accept there will be a difference or two with the food to what I would get in the UK. 5 minutes later, my chocolate milkshake arrived, followed by the fries that were meant to come with the burger. About 10 mins later, the fruit smoothie arrived. We're looking at about 9.50 now, place shuts at 10.

At 10.05 a young man came to the table and simply said, "No non dog." This was 40 minutes after placing our order. My friend couldn't be bothered to order anything else as we had waited so long, and asked for an empty plate so she could share her husband's burger, which arrived straight after. This tasted great, as had the fries, hence the two stars. At 10.15, my nachos arrived. They had been advertised with cheese sauce and I was really looking forward to them. What I received was a literal handful of broken tortilla chips, maybe 15, a lot of lettuce on top, about a quarter of an avocado, few bits of tomato and the same house sauce that had covered the burger and fries. The dish was advertised at 14 euros! The sauce was so strange, like a soy and ginger sauce and there was what tasted like huge lumps of salt in the middle of the dish. It was inedible, and I'll eat pretty much anything, especially when it's gone 10pm and I'm ravenous. I left it. When we called a young man over to tell him we weren't happy, he claimed the chef made the nacho sauce with coconut milk and cheese, she hadn't. He also claimed that we were told about the non dog when we ordered, we weren't. He even tried claiming that this is how they do nachos in the Netherlands, yet declined when I asked him to taste it himself.

We even had to argue about the bill, as there was no way we were paying for that wreck of an attempt at nachos. The only reason I've given two stars is for the burger and fries. I know how important reviews are but I couldn't let this go. There's not a chance in hell I would...

Hands down the worst service I have ever received in my life. I went to dine there at around 3pm after an extremely rough morning, ordered water and an appetizer. Waiter forgot my water and brought appetizer. He finally came back and I asked for water. My boyfriend was joining me after he got off work and had ALREADY sent me via text that he was NOT going to eat! 20 min go by and waiter never returns. My BF arrives just before 4 and the waiter says sorry sir we are closed and you cannot order. I respond by Saying he is with me and that I’ve been waiting to place my order. The waiter apologizes for never returning and takes my order telling me that the kitchen is closed but he will make this exception. (????) anyway, after about 5 minutes the chef comes out and GOES OFF ON US in the middle of the restaurant. He starts pointing his finger in my BF’s face literally yelling at us and saying that he won’t cook for him, that we should know better, that I should know what time they close (on google maps it says they close at 10-not defending myself because I am no where in the wrong here just pointing out a fact), then he proceeds to tell us we can only choose one thing from the items I ordered. I calmly told him that I had been sitting here waiting to order and he just cut me off and continued to rant with rage in my face waving his hands around aggressively and pointing his fingers in our faces. I didn’t eat, I paid for my appetizer and we left. The waiter came over and apologized for his colleagues behavior and said it was his fault for not returning to take my order. Really what a shame. Let me say this, I have managed a restaurant before, my family has owned restaurants before, and my BF handles dining referrals for the most elite guests in this city. We are no stranger to dining experiences worldwide. We have been invited to dine at places all over the city and have had all sorts of experiences. I have never in my life witnessed such atrocious behavior towards guests. What a horror. We are still disgusted by this experience and I would Never...

To everyone reading this, looking for a great vegan restaurant look no further. To Graham Davis who left the awful review below...you clearly are used to generic chain restaurants with terrible food and want the same boring experience so you can take beautiful photos for your mom and 2 friends that follow you on Instagram. Leave Amsterdam Graham Davis...you clearly don't get it.

OK, enough of that. I feel immediately protective of this awesome and unique place after one visit for dinner last night and we're already planning our next trip back. We had the Jamaican Platter and the Crispy Roti Wrap. The chicken they use is better than any meat substitute we've ever had. For two people who have been vegans for over a year and in that time, we've sampled all sorts of vegan food and this was the best vegan food we've ever had. This place is very unique and you might be forced to sit down at the same table with strangers. It was lovely to bring together people from different walks of life. You definitely have to come here with an open mind. You will not be greeted by a hostess or have a waitress ask you for a drink order upon sitting down. There is a fridge in the middle of the room, you get a drink and sit down wherever you can find a space. Once the tall young man comes over, you'll wonder why the Netherlands basketball team hasn't recruited him yet. Maybe it's because this restaurant is so damn good....that a job as chef is a lot more promising. And I'm so thankful for the wonderful experience that he provided us. He gave us incredible food and lovely memories. We're in Amsterdam for a few more days and we've already decided that we'll be making another trip to Terrazen.

Please go here...if only to piss off...
