I usually dont write Reviews but this "Restaurant" is a Trap at its finest. I really mean it avoid this Restaurant at all cost, and dont be blinded by the positive Reviews of which the majority "coincedantily" appeared around 3 Montgs ago.
Food: This is was by far the worst Restaurant Food i've ever had. Everything was obviously not freshly made, and probably Microwaved. Sprinkling cheap Cheese on a Pre-Made Meal and heating it up is what my 2 year old nephew coud do as well.
The Salad came without Dressing. The Meat had a wierd consistency. The Quesadilla was a cheap knock-off and the Burrito seemed to be Store-bought. Also the Water was served in Plastic Bottles from the store around the corner and there was no big Bottle availible. Besides that nothing had any sauces and was dry as hell.
Despite the lack in Quality the Prices were big and the Plates small.
Service: Even tough the Waiters were friendly it was clear they had no real Idea what they were up to. We sat upstairs and were forgotten for about 45min. They mixed up 1 Order and also forgot to serve another.
I Still feel Bad for them because the Owner seemed to be shouting at them and the Kitchen Staff.
Location: This really good Location and setting was sadly ruined. The Bar itself has great Potential and looks good from the In- and outside.
Please do not waste your money there, im...
Read moreThe TLDR is HALLELUJAH, finally, Mexican food in Europe that doesn't suck.
I'll start with the bad: -The rice is not a great consistency and lacks flavor, but is overall fine -The salad is not good -The marketing strategy of pulling in people off the street and Google review baiting is somewhat off-putting, though I can't say I blame them for it.
The good: -The entrees are delightful! It seems to be they took Indian style cooking and put it into Mexican style food, but it works. It's a uniquely Dutch take on Mexican food that is surprisingly good, and actually has a bit of spice. Not authentic by any means, but if you have a hankering for Mexican you can, and very often will find worse in Europe. -The staff, once they have you inside and before they are baiting for reviews, are genuinely delightful! English friendly, very courteous, excellent overall. The staff gets 5/5. -The draft beer is fresh and cheap (for eating out beer)
Food gets 3/5 for good unique Mexican inspired entrees, but eh rice and pretty bad salads. Also the vegetarian menu is a little short, but does exist. Service is great, 4/5, only brought down by the aggressive marketing strategy, which again, I get it. Atmosphere is cozy, 4/5. Good spacing for the size of the establishment, nothing particularly offensive about it, solid tunes at a...
Read moreSombrero Mexican Food in Amsterdam is like spotting a mariachi band at a Dutch tulip festival you're not sure how they got there, but you're too intrigued to walk away.
Look, I’m from Southern Cali, where sombreros aren’t just hats; they’re practically a religion, let’s just say it’s the stuff of legends.
Walking into this place, I was hoping for a taste of home like a little slice of Tijuana, but with more windmills. Instead, I think they might’ve borrowed a few too many ingredients from the Argentinian restaurant next door. It’s more like Mexican food that took a detour through Buenos Aires. Still, my quesadilla hit the spot, so they’re doing something right.
But let’s talk about the tacos. They were like a blast from the past, and by that, I mean they were rocking those old school hard shells that took me straight back to Taco Bell drive thru nights. Not exactly what I was expecting, but hey, sometimes nostalgia tastes good.
So yeah, Sombrero is solid. It’s not the place to go if you’re chasing that truly authentic Mexican vibe, but it’s worth a visit if you’re in the mood for a little cross cultural taco adventure. Four stars because my quesadilla was on point, but if you’re after the real deal, there are better spots in Amsterdam to satisfy...
