Unfortunately we went into the restaurant blind. There was a very large selection nearby and we were overwhelmed on the first day. You have to make reservations everywhere if you want to eat out. Then we decided on this restaurant because we wanted Mexican food. A table just became available.
At first glance, the restaurant has a Mexican charm. You feel like you're in a bar in Mexico. The tables and the restaurant is not very clean. You sit cramped together at rickety little tables, with another table somewhere in the corner. There is a broken refrigerator in the corner of the guest room that hasn't been cleaned in a while. Stuff is stored on it. You look into the open kitchen and constantly hear the microwave. So the ambience is quite fitting for a Mexican bar in deepest Tijuana. I think that's a good idea - but it's also the only thing that reminds me of Mexico in this restaurant.
The chefs look more Indian than Mexican. The food itself also tastes more Indian than Mexican. We had the fajita for two people. There was a lot of curry on it - so this was definitely an Indian dish reinterpreted as a Mexican dish! It generally tasted good but it's just not Mexican. There was also a side dish of (Belgian?) fries, which isn't really Mexican either. Normally you would expect rice and beans. Then there was a quarter of a big tomato, a cube of cucumber, corn, cheese and guacamole and corn tortillas. Plus a tasteless mayonaise. So a few ingredients were Mexican but unfortunately overall it wasn't a Mexican dish. It was still delicious, don't get me wrong. But just not Mexican.
The staff was very disinterested. Some guests also complained but a waitress always argued that the way it was served was correct. The cooks from the Indian area watched you the whole time from the kitchen, which was somehow unpleasant. The waiters, on the other hand, didn't pay any attention to you at all.
We also drank a magarita. Once with strawberry and a classic one. These drinks also had nothing to do with Mexico. The strawberry magarita was filled with strawberry juice. It had an extremely chemical taste. The classic margarita tasted like water. The artificial lemon essence also actually made the drink undrinkable for €11 each... So overall, really not recommended.
We had a very good comparison because we recently ate at a real Mexican restaurant and ordered exactly the same thing and also have experience with Mexican food from real Mexicans. So if you want really Mexican then avoid this restaurant!
The visit cost around €60 which really hurts because it wasn't what we had expected. €22 for two bad drinks and €38 for...
Read moreWe ordered the vegetarian quesadilla, which was extremely flavorless and was filled with random vegetables like green beans, carrots and peas with absolutely no seasoning. We did not eat the dish and when the man who took our order came by to ask how the food was (I believe he was the owner as well?) we told him the taste was horrible and his response was that it’s been the same recipe for 15 years and turned around to walk away. He didn’t even address the issue. Then a female server came by and we expressed our concerns to her as well. She asked what was wrong and asked what we would have liked to be different, as if we are chefs who should tell them a recipe. No apology, just basically stating we should have ordered a different dish if we didn’t like this one. Really odd and unprofessional way of doing business with absolutely no customer service. Then when it came time to pay the bill (which we had to pay in full) they said we have to go up to the bar to pay “when we have time”. A couple sitting next to us had ordered a vegetarian dish and also expressed concern for the taste of the food to the servers and they were asked the same question “what needs to be different”. They didn’t offer an apology, express any concern, or to try to make either situation right. They claimed to me that nobody ever complained about the taste of food but immediately after me, the couple next to us complained as well so I’m not sure if that was a coincidence or a lie on the...
Read moreIf you're in Amsterdam then this place is a must try atleast once for a meal. This was the best mexcian restaurant I visited in a very very long time. Place is pretty tiny and have a limited space with ambiance light and a continuous music in the background which was unrelatable to us since we didn't knew the language but their music was good to hear. We ordered our food which included a plate of fries, nachos with guacamole and a plate of enchiladas with rice. Fries were basic with little bit of seasoning. Nachos were in a great quantity filled with guacamole, salsa, sour cream and it was really delicious. Enchiladas this is the best dish i have ever had and probably the best one in my europe trip. A plate full of melted cheese, rice, running red gravy, veggies and guacamole. I couldnt ask for more once i had the first bite of it, the cheese was soo melted and sticky each bite of it was a pure heaven and indulge. I can officially say this was the best Enchiladas i had in my entire life. Service was pretty decent with limited staff our order took around 20 min minutes and I think that is very fair enough because it was a very peak time of the restaurant and they're delivered also very food. Kindly order the food with limitation as their each dish is in pretty good quantity.
Place:-4 Taste:-5 because I loved the Enchiladas alot. Value for...
