Stayed with my family in a triple room for €195 per night during last week of July 2018. Ignoring all previous negative reviews (which were accurate), I chose this hotel as it is located in Dam Square….a huge mistake. Apart from location, there’s nothing good that I can say. The triple rooms have a big pillar in the middle of the room (see pic) making it difficult to access the windows. But the biggest problem of all is that the rooms do not have air conditioning, making it really hot and unbearable. A tiny fan is provided which does not help in any way to improve the situation. Ironically, the corridors are air conditioned and so we had to keep the room door wide open to allow cool air from the corridor to flow, thus feeling awkward and embarrassed with our privacy stripped off when other guests passed by. No benefit from having windows as they faced a narrow alley and an apartment building so close that there was no circulation of air. Besides, if the window was open we would wake up from the loud noise outside. Could not sleep at night if the door was shut becoz then the room would get hot from the heat generated by the fridge (which itself was useless as it did not cool anything inside). After chatting with a few other guests (all of whom complained of the hot rooms) I learnt that they also kept their room doors open at night if one ever wanted to catch some sleep at all. The bathroom had a very foul stench (rotten fish) and did not have any shower gel/shampoo dispenser, no hooks to hang your clothes and no shower curtain which means the floor around became wet and slippery after a shower. The breakfast was ok (not great though) just the usual items. The elevator was too slow. Btw, even after repeatedly requesting the reception staff to provide an extra fan, they are least bothered to make any effort to assist you instead they brush it off with sarcastic comments. I have posted a few pics of our room. Overall, this hotel just ruined our stay and its not worth the money becoz we also stayed in Meininger Hotel at half the price and far better rooms. Please decide carefully before making a reservation here as the location does not justify the awful state of the rooms and...
Read moreUnsafe!! We stayed at the Rho hotel for 3 nights from July 12th 2015. On the 2nd night (the 13th) we went out to dinner at 7:30pm with a Dutch friend. At 10pm we dropped our 16 year old daughter in the lobby (she wanted to go back to the room) and went to a café around the corner. Within 10 minutes I received increasingly frantic texts from my daughter saying our two laptops (which we left charging on a chair covered with a hoodie) were gone. We went back to the hotel to meet the night clerk, who had inspected the room (#216) with my daughter but seemed more interested in the fact that some things (an ipod and camera) were still there (which somehow reflected poorly on us). By far the most upsetting thing was his assertion that what we felt was clear evidence of forced entry (see photos on tripadvisor review – the police concurred) was ‘an opinion’, and he refused to call the police or the manager, stating that ‘this is a big hotel and stuff happens all the time’. I insisted on being moved to another room as the door was compromised (again, he reminded me, just ‘an opinion’). No rooms were available so we were put into a nice apartment in an adjacent building – the one ray of sunshine in this story. The next morning, the manager, Ms. M. Dik, was even more direct, stating that in regard to the damage to the door ‘that is your opinion’, and that she ‘did not see it’. (This raises the even more bewildering notion that all the Rho Hotel’s doors look like this). Just to rub a bit more salt into the wound she again raised the ‘issue’ that some things in the room were not stolen (are we responsible for the unprofessional nature of Dutch criminals?). I requested a refund for the night on which the break-in occurred and Ms. Dik said she had ‘considered’ it, but felt the room ‘upgrade’ was sufficient and offered us a 75 euro dinner voucher. The uncaring and dismissive response from the management was more traumatic for us that the actual break-in and theft, and made an already bad experience truly devastating. A horrible,...
Read moreI felt that the reception staff had an indifferent attitude, almost as if they didn't care about the guests. There was a noticeable lack of warmth or professionalism, which was disappointing and set a negative tone for the stay. Simple Good Morning would be nice.||||The breakfast was very basic, but with good quality (pastry & ham) food items were frequently missing. If you plan to have breakfast, make sure to arrive early because if you come during the last 30 minutes, you'll likely find the buffet cleared out with no replenishments offered. One particularly unpleasant incident occurred when an individual who wasn’t a guest entered the breakfast area, helped himself to food, and attempted to take it outside. Although the staff eventually noticed and intervened, the situation escalated when the individual angrily threw the food against the wall. This created an uncomfortable and chaotic atmosphere for everyone present. || ||The rooms were equipped with two twin beds awkwardly pushed together to resemble a double bed. Additionally, the walls were paper-thin, you could hear everything. The bathroom design felt outdated, with the shower placed inside a bathtub that looked like it hadn’t been upgraded since the 1980s. ||||The only redeeming factor of this hotel is its excellent location, which is within walking distance of many popular attractions and the city centre. However, given the overall experience, I found myself questioning whether the location alone made the stay worth it. ||||Overall, I cannot recommend Hotel RHO. While the location is convenient, the unhelpful reception staff, ordinary breakfast, chaotic atmosphere, and outdated, noisy rooms left me feeling frustrated and unsatisfied. There are likely much better options in Amsterdam at a similar...
