We chose to sit outside for a view of the canal, and while I can understand why we were asked to pay once our orders were served (they’ve probably had dishonest runners prior), it still left us feeling a little lesser. It didn’t help that the waiting staff wasn’t fluent in English, and therefore incapable of making it more of a polite request than a blatant demand.

The staff were friendly until we asked for an explanation on why our food wasn’t ready yet (we waited an hour). She acted super defensive and I only wanted to know why she hadn’t told us anything before we ordered. This was our last day in Amsterdam and we wanted to keep exploring. So unprofessional. I have worked in hospitality many years and you must always tell your costumers if the wait is going to be longer than an hour.
