De Stadthouder — Restaurant in Leiden

A lovely, modern cafe with friendly, helpful service and outdoor seating overlooking a beautiful fish fountain and Leiden City Hall.

We ordered 2 lattes and they were of the no- nonsese kind of coffee: very Dutch style lattes that had a strong kick of caffeine, creamy notes and a slight, bitter aftertaste. It had no fancy milk art on the foam, no separated layers of milk and latte in the cup and the spoon dropped in the latte like a brick, instead of being held on top of the foam.

It is a cup that tastes like pefection without the frazzles. A great morning cuppa on a Sunday morning to start the day.

My boyfriend and I went in to get seats and right off the bat the server was clearly annoyed with us. He told us just to choose a place to sit and we did, and after like 10 minutes he came and got our drink order. After that, we were sitting there for forty five minutes and he never came to take our order while people who had come to sit down after us had their orders taken and had received their food. I am not sure if it was because we were foreigners but he never came by us. We left our payment on the table and left. The food looked good but we never got to try it so I can’t really attest to...

Worst experience as a father I ever had

After entering with a baby crying I parked the stroller in a area I though (I understand it might not have been the case) was not disturbing the restaurant waiters. Was told rudely to move the stroller and after asking where was told “I don’t know!, just move it”.

Having asked my wife if we would stay the waiter interrupted with an “goodbye”.

PS: this was the only bad experience, this was a good place to go before this single waiter ruined the whole...
