3.5/4 We had a date night at Rodin last week, with the 30% discount from The Fork. They bring tap water and bread with a tapenade when you're ordering, which is always nice but rare in the Netherlands. We shared the scallop starter, the combination of sweet potato cream and smoked black pepper syrup worked so nicely. We ordered the cod gratin as our main dish, it was served with a celery root mousse. The fish was well cooked and flaky, the mousse was really tasty too, both the wine syrup and the mousse complimented the cod. To finish the meal, we had the poached pear and a cheesecake (it was the cake of the day). The pear on its own was a bit lackluster since it wasn't poached in wine, it was served with some sweet bread and walnut icecream (not housemade, unfortunately) which did help. The cheesecake was well balanced, one of the lightest (in a good way) I've had in the Netherlands so far.
They have a nice wine menu with some decent options per glass, their housewine is especially good value! The restaurant is quite spacious, it'd work well for an office lunch/dinner or a family get-together. The staff is also nice, we were satisfied with the service. Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Rodin and we might go there again to try out their...
Read moreA very nice café-restaurant that performs better then you would normally expect at this level. A veloute with mushrooms that was delicious! The deer steak juicy, medium rare with a lovely potato-broccoli puree. Good. Very good. Nice sauce, not too salty, not too careful... Just right! One, almost funny, accident. Never in all my years... A carpaccio seemed to have been fitted with pine kernels, as is customary. HOWEVER, unbeknowst to the chef, he'd been delivered CHINESE pine kernels. And they make your taste bitter. This effect can take a day or to two to form or in 10 minutes. 10 minutes it was, and everything had a bitter tinge, including the water! Not too bad, but we informed the chef. This does not happen very often, anywhere. But there it is. Avoid the chinese ones! Great place, lotz of value for reasonable prices. Nice wine, too. .....And a little...
Read moreWe dined here whilst visiting Rotterdam, looking for good cuisine and informal ambience. The food is French and Dutch and nicely presented. We started with a mixed meats platter, the wild boar and smoked duck very good. Also, we had the chicken livers with apple, also excellent. For mains, we chose pheasant with lovely potatoes dauphinoise and sauerkraut. The meat was succulent and tender, the accompaniments great, although the cabbage a little strong with vinegar, but not bad. We also had the venison and creamy mashed potatoes. A lovely dish with...
