The best coffee shop in the World.

I genuinely think it is. I've been to amazing cafes, coffee shops and espresso bars all across the World. From Melbourne to London. I've worked in the coffee industry across the world too and am inherently hugely critical. Atomic is basically flawless.

This little Kingsland based roastery has amazing decor with plenty of seating, moody creative lighting, a beautiful table in the middle and even the menus are displayed nicely. The takeaway area is well set up and allows the business to push out the large clientele base's needs in no time. Attention to detail knows no bounds in every aspect of this place.

Aside from the incredible setup behind the counter to suit all your darkest coffee snoberies, the coffee menu offering is ahead of it's time for NZ, where you can pair some of the best espressos for an entrée before indulging in a fruity filter to peak your caffeine addiction. Even the tea I had after my meal, chosen from the great selection of blends, was amazing a refreshing.

Given this is a specialty coffee shop, I didn't expect much from the food offerings. The menu is small and cheap with the right amount of selection to match my hatred of large menus and my partner's annoyingly selective taste buds, so everybody wins. My expectations were blown away. The food was beautifully presented and had tastes to match. The colourful flowery garnish made me feel like I'd walked into my friend's Michelin star restaurant.

There are only two problems I had. No one came to see if I wanted another coffee, which after falling in love with the place in 20mins, I did. I had to walk up to the counter and ask but I understand most people want to be left alone to talk etc so I didn't really mind. Otherwise the staff were really nice.

The other is that I rarely find an excuse to get over to Auckland. Atomic could blow South London out of the water if it ever...

(Wrote/posted this a year ago, adjusted the star rating re reading it, and its posted like its today - soz). Saturday lunchtime havent been to Atomic for a long time, so looking forward to it. Ordered for my husband and myself he had the chili scrambled eggs, I had the (roast?) beetroot panini toasted, side of hash, and lemon tart to share. Also had a soft drink. The server at the counter seemed flustered but wasnt a major. No numbers for tables, ok, went back and waited. Eggs came out first and in good time, Husband started eating, so he was happy. nothing for the next 20min, asked a server if it would be long (panini came out of the cabinet as did the tart), wont be too long apologies, no problem, 5min later panini came out (see photo), was a lot of beetroot and not much more, not much flavor and quite underwhelming, not roasted (im sure it said that on the sign), I was hungry...no hash, asked another server, wont be long, came out 5min later, super greasy, couple minutes later the tart, then my soft drink. No number on the table to see that something needs to come out still? Over all it took 30min from the eggs arriving to my drink arriving. Im not one for writing heaps, but id like to explain the low stars. Its a rare day when I dont have a great cafe experience but this was the day. I dont know what happened last Saturday with all the moving parts but it was a bummer. Time for a team bonding perhaps, get some engagement going. Would like to come back in recognition of all those high star reviews and see what all the hypes about for one of Auckland's long standing institutions, last week...

Sunday lunchtime was kinda busy, there is no table service or individual menu's here nor is there a kids menu so grab a table take a photo if you're with a group of the main menu board behind the counter and you should be right.

Because it was full we just managed to grab a table for 4 from a group just leaving, However it was awhile before the table was cleared only until our coffee's arrived did they decide to clear it.

Food arrived quickly as we ordered 2 pumpkin omelettes with a side of bacon for one and a side of salmon for the other, it was absolutely delicious!!! egg omelette with dukkah, sour cream and tomato relish highly recommend.

They must roast there own beans here cause there appears to be a huge contraption in a room you can view from the cafe. Thats why the coffee was so good, the self helping water taps are cool. The location of the cafe gets the morning and mid-afternoon sun so very pleasing and warm on a...

Overall, a high degree of precision and consistently dishing out very high quality coffee in Auckland. One thing that is great about atomic is the range of different blends available on offer. After coming twice (so far), they are still able to consistently maintain high quality coffee which follows the tasting notes. The coffee served here will not disappoint and has been a tried and tested cafe that holds prestigious titles. One slight issue is with the service. On my first visit, there was a huge queue that was not moving because there was no one serving them for a period. Apart from this, staff was lovely and food came quickly. Excellent coffee art from the barista is always welcome. Great seeing them flex themselves and show off their skills! This is a good reason to order dine in instead of takeaway.
