First of all, I must point out, $216 for 4 people is absolutely outrageous for very average food. At that price point I would be expecting gourmet high-end fancy food, but it was nothing at all special here.
The service was also very inconsistent, depending on which waitress that arrives with the food cart, sometimes they're really nice, while others are quite rude and don't listen to you, and they tend to push food onto your table unless you specifically say no to them.
We went for yumcha during midday on Thursday, there was plenty of parking, and we didn't need to wait for a table. The manager didn't seem to care very much and was in a rush, so I guess she was a bit under the pump, but it wasn't that busy when we were there.
Like I said, the food wasn't anything out of this world. The stir fried beans were far too salty, and the oysters were drowned in mayonnaise, overpowering the natural taste of the oysters. The glutinous rice chicken barely had any chicken in it, and it also had mayonnaise on it (not sure why they decided to put mayonnaise on these foods). The BBQ pork rice vermicelli rolls were under-salted, and the steamed beef tripe were quite tough to chew.
The better food were the lemon prawns and the pork floss buns. These tasted fresh and flavoured nicely. The prawns were crispy on the outside, and the fragrance of the lemon sauce came through. The buns had a soft outside and the pork floss was delicious.
All in all, we probably won't return again. There are better yumcha places with far more reasonable prices. It was a passable experience, but we were disappointed with the food we got compared...
Read moreThis place use to be a regular for me and my family. Now, we will never go back. Half of the lady's that push trolley are rude. They give you a disrespectful look if you don't want food. They harass you with deserts because they know my kids want it. They hand it towards the kids so they could cry for it. We would say no, but 5mins later same desert comes back. Bloody con artists. I let that slide for while until one day they went too far.
It started with the eldest lady that pushes trolley of wings and honey prawns. We asked for hot prawns and not the cold ones, and she walked away mumbling words in Chinese.
Then there is another fuller sized lady that serves from a tray directly from kitchen. She wears white with a black apron. I asked half duck from her, thinking it was the same portion of duck that comes around on trolley. She came back with duck and it was actually bigger portion. I told her sorry, I want the size from trolley please. So it was my fault. I understand. I was actually acting really sorry about it. But then she looked at me and started speaking Chinese. No one else was around. I said what did you say? Then she laughed at my face in front of my family. 4 lady's that pushed the trolley all came to us and they were yelling speaking Chinese and pointing at me while that lady that handed me the duck was laughing.
The lady manager was just staring from far and did not come to resolve the issue. Shows that the manager doesn't care about friendly service to customers.
Side note, spend hard earned money somewhere else. These guys do not care about you. Only care about how much money they can...
Read moreIf you don’t speak Cantonese, expect to pay more and expect zero explanation!!
We were charged $400 for a very basic yum cha experience with zero transparency on pricing. We didn’t order any premium items just two scallop dish and the usual dumplings, buns, and basic plates yet somehow ended up with a bill that was way out of proportion. What’s worse is that it felt like the staff were deliberately assigning dishes to the higher-priced categories, assuming we wouldn’t notice or understand the system because we don’t speak Cantonese. There was no explanation of what counted as “large” or “special,” and we were never shown a price guide or given an itemized receipt. The docket system was vague, and dishes just kept arriving no one mentioned pricing, and when we asked questions, they were brushed off. It honestly felt like we were being taken advantage of for not being “in the know.” I’ve been to plenty of yum cha restaurants, and I’ve never experienced this level of lack of transparency. It’s incredibly disappointing. If you plan to go, be extremely cautious: ask for pricing before ordering, track every stamp, and request a receipt. Otherwise, you’ll end up with a shock at the till like we did.
I’ve seen reviews saying this place is expensive. It’s not that this place is expensive it’s that they take advantage of customers who don’t speak Cantonese by quietly assigning higher prices. That’s not a language barrier, that’s intentional...
