The Vintage Bar&Bistro — Restaurant in Canterbury

I’ve never done a review however this needs to be done. We went here as it wasn’t super busy and wanted to stop somewhere easy for dinner. Drinks were fast to arrive however it took 1hr to receive our entree (2x prawns to share amongst 5) and then another 45 minutes to receive our mains. After our entrees we asked if we could at least have the child’s meal as he was starving, tired and ready for bed. When asked how long this would take they said “another 10 minutes” however it took 20 odd for some fries and hot dogs to be deep fried. When our mains arrived they were all below par. The lamb shank and the pork belly were both dry. The burger was nice however at 8:30pm after a long day at the pools I think anything would be. We noted that many others around us were also complaining about the wait. The staff at the bar and waitress were fantastic and couldn’t fault them as they were very apologetic however it didn’t take away from the fact that we waited nearly 2 hours...

Thanks so much for ruining a birthday dinner. We came in at 7pm on the off chance a table was free. There was. We were seated, menus given and water. I counted 5 staff running ragged. Lots of other people seated and menu's handed out. Service was so slow. We struggled to get a drink. A waitress arrived and we ordered entrees and mains. Just under an hour later, nothing had arrived. I approached bar staff who told me it wasn't his fault he was short staffed. No apology just excuses. We left after an hour having not eaten. We paid for our drinks. My question was why accept walk ins if you can't serve them? We came here 2 years ago and had a great meal and service. This place has gone down hill. We asked when seated if it was a busy night and were told it wasn't a busy night. No indication was given of delay times which would have influenced us choosing this venue. Disappointing and...

We spent the day at the hot springs and this establishment was right next door and looked inviting. We are a family of five we walked in and asked about having dinner, 6 staff milking about and 3 tables occupied didn’t seem like a big ask. The young girl sighed when I said we didn’t have a booking, a young foreign guy took over and led us to a table outside and promptly supplied a bottle of water and menus. 15 minutes later I ventured in to get drinks, was told that they would bring drinks out and no need to wait at the bar. Another 15 minutes passes and I go back in to find ordered drinks( bear in mind this is half an hour and we’ve had no meal order taken) to find 3 staff standing at the end of the bar chatting and no movement on the drink order …I asked for a refund , which was given and we wandered around to the Alpine Inn where we had a lovely meal and drinks.
