I was very excited to be visiting Tok Tok as I love Thai food and had read some awesome reviews. We arrived early as were off to a show, and were shown to our table. The menu had some pretty interesting dishes including some of my favourites including pepper squid and som tum salad, so decided to order these 2 dishes. The service was excellent and the food arrived quickly so that we could make it to the show. The restaurant itself is very cool, with a lovely ambience. The whole experience was amazing apart from the food and I left feeling rather disappointed. We were warned that the som tum salad is spicy, so we asked for dressing on the side, as the friend I was dining with prefers mild. I usually order medium to hot when I order spicy food, as enjoy a bit of heat. The squid arrived, but was probably the spiciest dish I have ever eaten in my entire life including on my travels through India and South East Asia including 5 trips to Thailand. It was heavily seasoned with sechuan pepper to the point that I almost thought I was going to internally combust. I thought to myself, holy sh*tballs, if this is a dish that came with no heat warning, then imagine how hot the tom yum salad is going to be. The salad turned out to be mild, but the dressing was more of a jam than the traditional som tum salad, so this didn't work either. I ended up using the dipping sauce from my fire squid to dress the salad, then it tasted more like it ought to. I think I stopped sweating about an hour after eating the squid. We tried to complain about the squid heat to the waiter who laughed us off, most likely assuming I couldn't handle any amount of spice, which is incorrect. I don't know what happened in the kitchen, but having eaten varieties of salt and pepper squid all over the world, this was a first i.e. off the chart spicy. Tasted as thought the dish had been seasoned with ground up carolina repears. Needless to say, not sure if I...
Read moreFood was amazing as it always has been at TokTok however we were pretty disappointed on our last visit with the service. We booked a table for my birthday as a young family of 4 with no family close by to look after our kids, we brought them with us. Our girls are well behaved kids so knew it would not be an issue. Our 7 month old ate everything I had packed and cooked for her. As she started solids recently her amount of food can be super hard to predict. She was still hungry. After looking at the menu to try and find something to ask for that would be super easy I did notice they have Avocado. After asking the waitress if I could please have half an Avo on a plate for my baby I got told I could only order what was in the menu. I went back to the menu and noticed some Kumara. I then called the waitress back and asked for some Kumara. Another no, and got told again I could only order what was on the menu. I wasn't expecting a separate specialised meal for my child. An Avocado out the fridge and put on a plate would have sufficed but it was all meet with a firm no....... pretty disappointing that they would rather have a screaming hungry child in their restaurant affecting their other patrons that have also planned on having a lovely evening. I have worked in hospitality for many years myself and understand how food is pre-prepped and how busy a kitchen can get during service. Which is why I was doing my best to not ask for anything that would create extra work for the kitchen. There was no room for help or understanding. Disappointing to...
Read moreWhat a disappointing dinning experience.
Service is very poor. I appreciate the place was busy and all the waiters are young, however my friendâs pad Thai was serviced 30 mins after we ordered, my dish was not serviced another 40 mins later. Itâs ridiculous!!! People go dinning together, not we look at each other eating by themselves!!!! Asked the waitress couple times, they said they would check but never come back with an answer. We should have just left.
Food is overpriced especially for that long wait!!! The Hapuka dry red curry took over an hour to arrive on the table, cost $37, only have 5 piece of small piece in it. Wearing the asian fusion name, serves food in âfine diningâ small portion, is fooling the diners. I would rather go white + Wong, or madam Wu.
Information provided is confusing. There is no allergy info and spice level on the menu, as any other restaurant or even food court would do. We ask the waitress how spice is each dish we ordered, then were told âall of our food is mild.â âŚâŚ wow, both dish arrived are definitely spicy. It is ok if the dish is spicy, but customers need to be advised when they order. Basic hospitality 101.
While there are so many restaurants are not surviving during and after COVID, tok tok should really try to do better than what they are offering to the diners now.
Well for sure I am NOT going back...
