A hidden gem right in the heart of the city. You’ll miss it easily as it sits on the 1st floor and only noticeable from the menu and sign board which leads you up a flight of stairs. This place has been around for such a long time and it used to be a haunt with my mates during our uni days which was a couple of decades ago! A great selection of food and they don’t disappoint. What I’m impressed is that the consistency is still the same from day 1 and portion sizing is generous. They have a toilet available but you’ll need a key behind the counter and it comes with a super large keychain! Since nothing much has changed, the place is slightly run down and would definitely benefit from a little makeover.

When I first came here I really enjoyed the meal, but now prices have gone up but the portions seem smaller, I left still hungry after spending $35 which shouldn't be the case. Probably won't come here much anymore unless the portion sizes get bigger, the food had a nice taste, I was unimpressed by the fried chicken pieces they were dry cheap chicken drums and wings 4 pieces I thought it was going to be boneless chicken pieces. Maybe they should clarify this on the menu. The wonton soup flavour Is delicious.. just again such a small portion for a high price... I'm talking about the tomyum soup with rice and even the sweet n sour pork on rice... need to give more rice too.

The Oaks Satay Noodle House is one of those Wellington staples where you come for the rustic familiarity rather than any overinflated expectation of quality. The food is exactly as you expect, no frills required. I return back up the rickety stairs again and again for their chicken nasi goreng (hot). Is it the fanciest? No. Is it the most authentic? No. Is a main ingredient Watties frozen mixed veg? I suspect yes. But for me this is what my brain recognises as nasi goreng and I have never found a better, tastier version anywhere else.

My experiences: I brought a friend who could barely stand the smell and described it as smelling like "expired grease & oil" also claiming the air felt heavy to breathe, so imagine stodgy air. So she left within 10 secs of entering. rip. Deep fried chicken (had it two different occasions): chicken was well cooked, but the deepfried casing was as if they took some thin plastic, deepfried it and called it day. No seasoning (or if there was, it was probably just cinnamon), accompanied by sweet chilli sauce in a pottle. Good sizes however. Side salad: I asked for no dressing (balsamic), it was healthy which is positive, didn't feel like it had any extra negatives, seemed washed with a glisten, oxidization on the lettuce (or could've been some days old), but seemed fresh. Lemon Chicken: Terrible. Tasted like someone took lemon syrup and poured it on some overcooked rubber chicken, next to some rice and called it a day. $18.90 well spent. Mee Goreng (this was another time I went there): Again, pretty terrible. Felt fake tasting, as if they added curry powder, salt & cumin and called it a day. Portion size was decent, please don't order it.

Pros: -Staff were incredibly lovely & considerate -Had a bathroom -Was quite quiet -Seemed cheap (get what you pay for) -Neat location -They seemed flexible to what you dietary...

The food here unfortunately isn’t as good as it used to be. I’ve been ordering the same dish for over 10 years so I can tell if the flavours and quality has changed. I started to notice the decline a few months ago but decided to give it a try again. Number 7 with fried rice is my go to. They charge an extra 4.2 dollars for the rice to be fried rice. The fried rice was all clumped up and it was cold on the bottom. It barely had any eggs, and it charged me 4.2 dollars. They changed soup as well, it’s not as flavourful now. The chicken was ok. But the chef has definitely changed since the fried rice is only egg and rice so I’m surprised they managed to mess it up. The fried rice no longer has that Wok Hei which is very important in...

Ate there now more than 3 times and i must say, their food and meals are great, i tried number 30,32 and 8, all were very dilicious, fast and fresh, the crew is friendly and helpful. you could choose lots of meals without meat or could choose between chicken, pork or beef. The building looks a little bit dogy and old from the outside, but their food is too great to stay away cause of these reasons, neverate better Asian food in wellington. Plates are very big and even the biggest man will have enough to eat. Cool is also that they have lots of little snacks for cheap prices and a big card with a picture of the meal! Make a better otherview of their card! Prices are okey and you get something...
