An exquisite meal out on Jackson Street with Rata, Thomas & team. Wholesome and tasty food that makes you smile and talk flavours with each other. The service was wonderful and we were guided so well on how to order off the menu. "Share your entree". We had beef croquettes for entree, and added potatoes cooked in duck fat to go with our mains. I had the Snapper en Papillote with a delicious, red Jasmine rice and Thai herbs and my wife had the Lamb Rump with what she said was full of different exciting flavours - each puree alongside of the tasty gravy with the soft and supple Lamb Rump made her meal wholesome. We both knew with the presentation of the meals, it was going to be an exciting food adventure and it definitely was. My wife finished off her Valentine's night with Thai Tea Creme Brulee - the shell was lite and tasty, and the soft sweet Thai Tea creme had a unique taste with a side of ice cream and little delights. Happy wife, happy life - a very Happy Valentine's 💕 It was a little heavy on the purse strings, but when you enjoy a wonderful meal like this - it was...
Read moreMy wife and I celebrated our 15 year wedding anniversary at Rata's Kitchen after receiving a number of recommendations from friends who love this restaurant. The solid 5 star Google reviews meant we went in with very high expectations. It became clear very early on what all the fuss was about - we immediately felt welcomed by the co-owner, Thomas, who was extremely personable and great to chat with. He was attentive and efficient. The restaurant style has elements of France and Thailand, the food is a definite fusion of the two with incredible flavours and immaculate presentation. The service was absolute top notch, the food exceptional, and the wine range was impressive with options from France, NZ, Aus, Italy and Spain. The bill was definitely fair for the quality of the food, the portion sizes, and the overall experience - we had 2 entrees, 2 mains, a side and 3 glasses of wine for $150 total. Thank you Rata and Thomas for providing a fitting location for our anniversary celebration. We will certainly be recommending Rata's Kitchen, and coming back soon with...
Read moreWOW! An incredible dining experience! The best we've ever had in Petone or Lower Hutt. We popped in to share a glass of wine with friends while they dined there. After hearing them repeating "Wow!" and "OMG!" so many times, we relented and ordered our own plates of entrees. I'm thrilled that we did because the food was spectacular. It's rare that a chef can fuse cuisines together like this chef does. And, as fabulous as the food was, the service was even better. This young couple have put their heart and soul into this restaurant and it shows in all the small details. Most impressive of all, they don't overcharge for the privilege of enjoying their food and wine. We enjoyed a delicious French red for $13.50 a glass. And at $32.50, the dearest item on the menu costs little more than a hamburger at many other restaurants. For dessert, you can enjoy a gelato for $5.50 or affogato for just $10, which is great value for mony. Don’t hesitate, give it a try! I hope the community gets behind this outstanding restaurant so we can enjoy their brand of magic for a...
