Peggy Gordon's Celtic Bar — Restaurant in Taranaki

Ridiculously slow for a quiet day. Excuse was "it's taking a long time at the moment and we'll have it out as soon as possible.

There were about 5 or 6 other patrons when we entered and ordered.

Sparkling wine served in a tumbler and I was looked at like I was mad when I requested the correct glassware. If a 15 year old is serving they should be trained before serving!

Eventually gave up waiting and demanded a refund so I'm unable to comment on food itself. The refund was a challenge in itself as it was established we had been over charged ( had not been given a till receipt only an eftpos receipt so had not spotted the over charge ), but a simple subtraction of drinks value from the total charged was not the solution apparently. We got there in the end.

This establishment is an embarrassment to New Plymouth.

Worst meal I have ever had. So much we both only had one mouthful. The chicken fettuccine was swimming in some brown sauce which I could only describe as instant gravy with cream added The pork belly on menu said crunchy with roast vegetables we got soggy with boiled carrots and broccoli mashed potato and what I am certain was instant gravy. We left our meals in front of us virtually untouched. The staff walked by our table several times without even asking if there was a problem. We then took our meals to the bar and told them our problem with the meals and they just looked at us blankly and said OK. No offer of a refund. Absolutely...

Best fries in New Plymouth (sorry Kev, but it's true—get over it) hands down. They have Guiness on tap, and did I mention the best chips in town? They also have a fire so you can gather around that for the 10 months of the year when the weather's poo. When the weather's good my little lad and I sit out in the sun on the pavement tables. He watches the cars go by outside and I look out for mates who might be working on a Thursday and wave at them in a sympathetic manner while enjoying my pint. Delicious Guiness and delicious chips.
