张亮麻辣烫Zhangliang Malatang — Restaurant in Upper Harbour

Love the Malatang. This is one of my favorite restaurants. Service is good, and the food is SO FRICKIN GOOD. But if you order it from hungry panda, it isn’t the best. I recommend ordering from the restaurant instead of ordering from hungry panda, (online). I’ll tell you why. Firstly, when you order, it doesn’t look like anything from the picture and sometimes some ingredients are even on there. The price is way overpriced. I always order the same thing. If i order it from the restaurant, than it will be around $25. But if you order it from online, it is literally $40-$50. Crazy. And guess what? The delivery fees are $10. And when i order it from online, it arrives so late. Around 30 minutes. Once mine came after an hour. And once i ordered it from online and i ordered lots of ingredients and when i got the food, there were only 5 ingredients in there. My noodles were missing and all the things i ordered weren’t in there. Technically wasted my $40....

I had a decent experience here. I appreciated how clean the venue was, including the ingredients bar and fridge. The staff were also quick to refill ingredients and clear tables during our visit.

The food was prepared surprisingly quickly, but some parts of my meal weren’t as hot as I would’ve preferred, as I opted for the dry (no soup) option. Not cold or anything outrageous, but not as hot as I was used to from other hotpot restaurants. A friend of mine tried the soup, but it was quite bland and didn’t meet our expectations.

Fortunately, the condiment station was well-stocked with plenty of options to customize our meals to our liking. That said, I believe a good stock should stand on its own, which wasn’t quite the case here. On a brighter note, they offered free lollies and sweets, which was a nice touch.

Overall, it’s probably not the best hotpot option in the area, but it’s simple, clean, and quick—perfect if those are...

We've been eating there every now and then but after last time we had enough. They usually mess up your order (they only have 4 options to choose from! how can you mess it up). Also we always want non-spicy and last time after confirming 3 times that we want non-spicy of course we got a spicy meal. Literally couldn't feel our faces after few minutes. Staff also hidden all the water by that time because they were preparing to close. They started to harass us to eat quickly because they are closing. But the food was so spicy we couldn't eat fast so we asked for a container to take the rest home and... we were told to pay extra. I mean least you could have done after making inedible food (that we didn't order) for us is to at least give us this piece of plastic for free. We just left the food there. Never again. They couldn't care less about...
