Downlow Burgers - Newmarket — Restaurant in Waitematā

Revisited 03/10/2023 So im glad i gave this place another chance. Went there for lunch today and it seems like all the feedback i gave in the last review has been taken on board and improved on since i was last here. The food came out reasonably quick, this time with generous portions and looking around i couod see lots of people had ordered the fried chicken and it was massive portion sizes so definately an improvement there! The staff were really helpful and friendly and allowed me to exchange some sauce

The burger was still tasty as ever. Actually cheaper this time than when i was last here but no less good. The hotdog was also quite nice and at 10 bucks a little bit more expensive than id like. But still good. I would gladly recommend this place now as they seem to have significantly improved since i was last there. And made it actually enjoyable.

Original review So i was really conflicted writing this review. I went here with a small group of people on lunch during work. The food looked reansonably priced (for burgers in auckland anyway) The staff and the food itself were actually pretty great. The burger was juicy and tender and tasted really nice. The onion rings were fire and paired well with the bbq sauce. This place was let down by 2 things

1 the chicken 2 the service time

When we arrived the place wasn't that busy, there were maybe 4 people in the whole place sans the staff. Even so, it still took over 20 minutes to fix a burger onion rings and chicken. And while the burger was nice, i finished it before the onion rings, and chicken made it out to me 10 minutes later. The staff were very friendly and apologetic about the whole thing, which is one of the reasons why this rating isn't lower but the biggest shock of this whole experience was the chicken.

To be clear, the chicken was lovely it was juicy favoursome and hot... but i can't in good conscience recommend it to anyone purely based on the pathetic serving size. I paid 10 dollars for the fried chicken here. Expecting 4 -10 finger sized pieces. What i got, as you'll see in the photo, was 4 pieces of chicken that were barely bigger than a maccas nugget. The chicken was absolutely not worth it at all. If price is no object go hundies, but the chicken will leave you feeling empty. Both figuratively and literally.

If you are just going for a burger, and only a burger, and dont mind waiting a little bit , highly recommend great place. If you get anything chicken related, you're setting yourself up for...

Now let me just say that I do not like to spend lots of money on burgers, I usually go for the meal deal at Mickey D’s, but I had perused the menu here once before and they have $9 daily deals, that previous time I opted not to eat here as the reviews were a bit negative, but today I really felt like a burger. So it’s in the very busy Eatery in New Market Westfield, and it’s school hols as well, so the whole place was pretty chocka. I ordered 2 daily deals which today was ‘The Smoky Smash’, beef, cheese, bacon, onion rings smoky bbq sauce- why wouldn’t you, I added $6.00 to one and $9 to another for a combo with a Lime Thickshake, for my man, I’d love one but lactose intolerance won’t allow, 2 sips tho, OMG Soooo good, the burgers were really great, and the crinkle chips spot on., and a nice sized pottle of Tom sauce for free! I love burgers but this place made me hate them! I stopped eating burgers for a few months I was totally put off by any burger after this experience. I’m not being dramatic the meat patties had some pink slimy consistency inside and the lettuce/vegetables were dirty and old! I ordered on the screen literally 2-5minutes before we were served (this tells us that the burgers were not made fresh) the food was probably sitting there for the whole day.
