Pocket Bar & Kitchen — Restaurant in Waitematā

Pocket is a great addition to Grey Lynn. Living nearby, I watched the renovation from derelict building to trendy conservatory bar. The glass roof and ceiling-space filled with green foliage makes for a light, bright seating area. Contrastingly, the second half of the premises, a step down from the conservatory area, is the dimly lit bar. I loved how this space felt almost like a dive bar, adding to the feeling of Pocket being a local secret. In terms of food and drink, a very good selection of well presented cocktails and juices plus your standard beers and wines. Love the space. Really is like a local secret. Good wine list. Great menu though... it would be nice if there were some better value options. But maybe that's intentional? See my pic of my small $16 toasted sandwich. I was prepared to pay more due to the ingredients but expected a sandwich-sized sandwich for that money. Or I'd have been happy to pay $5 for the small sarnie I was supplied. On later visits found it hard to find something I wanted to eat that didn't have meat in it. After trying the fish sliders twice I can't recommend them. Nice mayo but the fish is not as fresh as it should be and the buns are dry. Spend your money on Al Brown's sliders at Depot instead. We booked The Bank for our winter wedding venue - John and the Pocket Bar & Kitchen staff were incredible and made the day run smoothly and without any drama. The food was delicious, everyone was well-fed and happy. The drinks flowed very easily, the dance floor was full all night long and the vibes were 10/10. John and the staff were a well-oiled machine, serving our 80 guests all afternoon/night and everything went so fab.
