Urban Jungle Cafe — Restaurant in Waitematā

The only thing good about this cafe is the lady chef, who has worked there for many many years for many different owners. Her food is and has always been good and is on point every time. However, the current owners have let the cafe detoriate significantly. The furniture and chairs desparately need replacement and are tattered and scratched like a cat has attacked them. The floor needs to be repolished. The interior is dirty, tables greasy and windows haven't been cleaned properly in months. One of the current owner's is famous for walking very quickly everywhere and the other for his stooped walk, wearing amateurish cartoon characters on his inappropriate clothing, singing short lines to music playing in the cafe and talking very loudly in english and mandarin and hence interrupting cafe guests who are trying to enjoy a bit of quiet. The main issue seems to be that he talks so LOUDLY (as well as to the other owner who he works alongside) and can't keep his mouth closed. He seems to be unaware of his poor behaviour with his favourite line being "no problem, no problem", constantly repeated to everyone after their requests. His overpowering voice has driven so many people away. Perhaps if he looks at his own behaviour and also attends to the terrible condition of the cafe, this old star might be able to light a new flame even with the high prices they charge. It is however entertaining to watch how unprofessional the service is and to see both the owners screeching between themselves! SO...

Don’t come here. There were about 20+ of us here, and we obviously booked ahead of time so they knew we were coming. The person serving us was very hostile, they didn’t have a system in place for the orders so they got frazzled and took it on us. They slammed our foods on the table and got frustrated when we said we didn’t order that food. So safe to say the service was very bad. I understand that you can get overwhelmed with lots orders and customers but there is no reason to give attitude towards PAYING customers. Yelling and talking back to customers is just not it! Not only was the service horrible, the food was also not worth the price. I ordered the SSS which I was very excited about, but I received watery eggs and soggy toast! I’ve had better breakfast at the SAME price range that was WAY better quality and service. My partner and brother ordered the big breakfast was very average, and quality was definitely not worth the price. Overall, a fine place to visit for brunch!

We came here as a group of 2 on a Saturday morning, and we got a salmon bagel and a Thai chicken salad, as well as a vanilla latte and a lime milkshake. The salmon bagel was lovely, nice flavours on the salmon. The Thai chicken salad was a little too saucy for my liking (despite it being good sauce), perhaps this could be improved by offering the sauce (or extra) on the side. But the salad had lots of fun textures, especially the crunchy noodles and the fresh greens.

It was a nice experience overall, but the service was a little inconsistent. The staff were friendly, but the food and drinks all came out at different times, which always leaves someone either eating first or awkwardly waiting.
