Not a lot of seating for bigger groups. Place feels a bit...grubby? In the same sense that a bar always feels kinda sticky and dirty. They don't sell fries which is what I was originally after to go with the garlic knots I wanted to try. This is my first time buying myself from Sals. I was encouraged because I'd had Sals pizza through work and I have always heard they're very good. But I guess little purchases don't matter. I purchased at 3.05pm. As my first time buying, I had not heard of their happy hour from 3 to 4pm for single slice pizza, until another guy ordered after me and enquired about the deal while I was waiting for them to reheat my food. I enquired if I was eligible as I too had gotten one slice of pizza with my garlic knots. First I get told its for pizza not garlic knots, I replied I did get pizza, next she tells me combos don't count. I didn't get a combo. Then I get told it only counts if you specifically ask before paying - this after she walked away from me and had to be called back by her colleague to answer my question. This delivered without an ounce of customer service or care whatsoever, which is the main reason it made it into this review. Not a place I think I will be visiting again anytime soon, and not great customer service from the female on duty. The guy working alongside her was good though from what I observed of him carrying out his duties. Food was relatively good for having been reheated, not sure that the price of pizza is worth what you pay...
Read moreThis location has the misfortune of a reviewer who was recently in NYC and knows a lot about pizza. I had a slice of the cheese pizza and in comparison to a slice of authentic NYC cheese pizza both the crust and sauce are lacking in flavor. I will start with the crust. Authentic NYC pizza crust is typically refrigerated and fermented for at least two days. This slows down the metabolism of the yeast causing it to produce different byproducts that add a ton of flavor. I suspect that the crust at Sal's isn't fermented at all as it was fairly flavorless. I can't quite put my finger on what was wrong with the sauce because there wasn't quite enough of it for me to taste it. NYC pizza isn't heavy on sauce but this slice definitely had too little.
All this being said I have had worse pizza in NYC, but I would say the typical NYC pizza place is better than what you get here. Overall it's not a terrible substitute for NYC pizza. Also, the staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean which aren't typically at an authentic NYC pizza place 😉.
Go ahead and give Sal's a try. You probably won't be too disappointed, but don't expect the best slice you...
Read moreBest customer service ive EVER HAD!! I can honestly say at this store that I had the best customer service experience. After a rough day, my partner and I stumbled up Fort street and found ourselves at Sals, and needless to say im glad we did! We were greeted almost instantly with a big smile, the guy serving us (Zane) was so polite and friendly! He was attentive and presented himself so professionally, of course we werent suprised when complementing him on his accuracy and overall kind nature that he told us he was the store manager! I knew instantly after this experience that I needed to get his name and sing his praises online.
He even told us about their 3 knots for $5 after I joked to my partner that a single one of their delicious knots was never enough.
I personally want to thank you Zane (If you see this) we greatly enjoyed our night and you definitely made the both of us feel significantly acknowledged not only as customers but now loyal regulars. I cannot recommend this...
