One star for the service which was decent, (i would have given zero stars) however the food itself was terrible, i ordered about 4 items from the menu so i have this on very good authority. I attended their Jazz night event on December 31st.
There was a small chops platter for 18K which they assured me was, i ordered this as a starer for my date and myself - this arrived in a small bowl, it was basically only puff puff, with one beef skewer and one prawn dipped in batter. Everything on the plate was bland.
My date ordered a Plantain lasagna dish, it was basically mashed plantains with ketchup sprayed on it, the platting was horrible, it looked like vomit literately, and the food itself was inedible - my date did not eat it.
I ordered the Steak with special Jollof rice (26K) - sounds promising right? the steak cut was about 1.5CM of low quality beef, i was able to taste the lack of quality because i asked for it to be cooked to "medium rare" but it arrived "well done" extremely hard and chewy, and it was cut way to thin to be a steak. I complained about this, and the waitress told me that they ordered it "medium" for me in error, i asked her to please change it and she said no, so i asked for a manager. At this point she agreed to change it, shortly after she returned with a similar steak that was cooked rare. It was actually still cold, anyways i ate about half of it cause i was starving. I hadn’t eaten anything all day cause i was planning on feasting. The special Jollof rice was also bland, but even worst tasted extremely stale, like it had been reheated multiple times, they sprinkled some basil on it to make it seem nicer but it really wasn’t very good.
My date also ordered some kind of asun dish to take home because we were both leaving hungry so i don't know how that was, the drinks were delicious though so complements to the bar tender, they also gave us complimentary glasses...
Read moreGaby's Lagos is a delightful culinary experience that excels in ambiance and service. With a perfect 5/5 rating for both, it's evident that the atmosphere and customer care are top-notch, creating a welcoming environment for patrons. The pricing is reasonable, making it accessible without compromising on quality.
During my visit, I opted for the chicken and waffle with a side of eggs. The ambiance contributed significantly to the overall enjoyment of the meal, earning a solid 5/5. The waffle, served in a double portion, was notably fluffy and tasty, although I would have appreciated a touch more sweetness to enhance the flavor profile.
While the service earned a perfect score, the food received a 3.5/5 rating. The chicken, although somewhat flavorful, didn't align with my personal preference due to the breading style. However, it's essential to note that taste can be subjective, and others might find it to their liking.
Despite the minor critique on the food, Gaby's Lagos remains a worthwhile dining choice, especially considering the fair pricing. A visit to Gaby's is recommended, as the overall experience is sure to leave a positive impression. Whether you're drawn by the inviting ambiance, impeccable service, or the potential for discovering a dish that suits your palate, Gaby's Lagos is worth exploring...
Read moreI’ve been coming here for a long time and while the ambience is still quite nice and the waitresses do their best, the experience continues to gradually diminish and I’m ready to find a new favourite place. On my visit yesterday, there was no sparkling water (quite strange in a place that expensive and when I went last month it was same situation). I asked for a medium steak and got a well done one (super super annoying!), we asked for 2 bottles of water and we were not told the water would come in a pitcher and that pet bottles are not allowed on the tables. My mum refused to drink out of a pitcher and it was just a waste of the water. Why can’t plastic bottles be on tables? More importantly why is that not communicated beforehand? Even abroad, it’s tap water that is served in pitchers and no one will open up your bottle of the water at the bar but rather in front of you so you see it was sealed. I used to tell everyone about this place and even brought my mum with me yesterday but moving forward, I will no longer be recommending this place to people and will no longer have it as a first option for date nights with my partner. It was great while it lasted but it’s not fun paying plenty money for a sub...
