A cosy restaurant in a serene location (Victoria Island branch) that offers Nigerian food. The menu will leave you spoilt for choice, so, it's best to have an idea of what you'd like to eat, before you see it.
Let me first say that the food is impeccable! I had pounded yam with efo riro. Members of my group had similar, with other soups (egusi, sea food okro, afang; one of us even requested for vegan cuisine...). ALL of us affirmed that the food was delicious. Some complained that the soup was too spicy (I liked it so!) Frankly, I'd be surprised if you had any issues with the food.
Where there might be some concern is the time it takes to get the food ready. Some of us waited for up to 45 minutes... I'd advise that you shouldn't be very hungry when you come here.
The air-conditioning is effective; the seating arrangements, banquet style. There are 2 floors to the building and only the ground floor is wheelchair accessible. The furniture, staircase and handrails have this sturdy, comforting look and feel (for some reason, this is important to me).
I don't know how busy the restaurant gets, but the car park isn't spacious. Don't bank on the possibility of parking without obstructing someone. Better still, go with a driver, so you don't have to leave your meal to go move your car, when someone needs to leave.
The toilets earn the name "restrooms" with honours! They are very well kept.
Service was friendly and courteous.
You want to go to the Yellow Chilli if you like delicious Nigerian food! Remember to indicate, if you don't like spicy food. They'd ask...
Read moreYellow Chilli can literally do no wrong!!!! Want native Nigerian meals that actually taste like home cooked meals? Yellow chiIli!! I literally got tired of telling people about yellow chilli; I decided to write a review (in the future, I will be sure to direct them to read it here, lol). I found out about yellow chili when I relocated newly to Lagos and didn’t care for hotel meals. Funny enough it was just opposite my hotel (panorama hotel and restaurant which I also gave reviews about). I was hooked. I have brought family and friends. They are hooked!! (True talk and I am not being paid or in any way affiliated with yellow Chilli; just a satisfied customer’s honest review) My fav still remains the Egusi soup (so freshly made and don’t even get me started on the huge portion sizes) and still at affordable prices for a restaurant on the island. When I need to change it up from Egusi, I go for the yam porridge with snails. Want something peppery, then pls go for their bitter leaf soup or the pepper soup with your choice of meat or fish. They also have two versions of Okro soup that will literally make you think you are eating in your house. I have heard their fisherman’s pepper soup is what attracts the entire lagos (I hate fish so I can’t review on what I haven’t eaten) but hey, be sure to check them out if you are in town; looking for a cozy environment that serves freshly cooked meals so unbelievable that you can’t distinguish it from home...
Read moreDelicious and affordable Nigerian dishes in decent-enough surroundings. Yellow Chilli food doesn't disappoint. Good selection of Nigerian soups with "swallow", rice dishes, and good appetizers. I take visiting friends and family here for the finger-licking soups, not the pseudo-continental fare. Good for an after-work meal if you've got a hankering for home food. Much prefer the sports bar seating and decor upstairs to the dark restaurant downstairs, but it can get crowded upstairs, especially on match days and weekends. Wherever you sit, you'll forget about where you are when the food arrives. Service can be slow, though, so munch on those good peanuts for a bit.
Friendly and attentive servers. Remember to tip your server.
