If you’re looking for classy food in a comfortable, funky lounge setting, you’ve found it here at the Vellvett Grill Lounge & Bar. Set in a modern refurbished building in Victoria Island, Lagos. Vellvett is one of the new wave of chill out zones that really pushes Lagos nightlife and gastronomy to that new level.
The modern but simply decorated lounge is tastefully adorned with red and yellow velvet lounge chairs lining the bar- somehow combining to guarantee class, comfort and style. The restaurant also offers two VIP areas, spot lighting and a private room for the discerning. Besides that, the service is impeccable and the bar staff well-trained to make even the most bizarre cocktail concoction.
There is a relaxed and very cool feel to this place. Vellvett Lounge is at its heart a serious restaurant. The house menu offers intense gastronomic variety with Oriental and Mediterranean options but it’s in the classic cuisine that Vellvett stands apart. Vellvett’s menu will take you on a gastronomic voyage around the world. But don’t be fooled, their chief specialty is definitely grill- grilled lobster, kebab, steak, salmon...
Read moreHad a great time with my friend, her cousin and husband and his friends on Friday night. Both of us in Lagos for the first time. The music and atmosphere were incredible. We bought several bottles and had the best time during my 10 day stay in Lagos.
We returned the very next day where we were refused entry because there were no men with us. The bouncer was incredibly and unnecessarily rude, even acknowledging me by name from the night before. Another group of guys overheard us complaining and offered to help by saying we were their friends so we could go inside (something that really shouldn't need to happed). On the way in my friend pointed out to the bouncer he didnt have treat us the way he did, he then said she disqualified herself from entering and had to find as he put it "another man who wants to bring her inside". An altercation even broke out between the men who tried to help us, because they didnt agree with how we were treated either.
Truly setting the wrong standard for the next generation of young women; because apparently our money is of no value in the...
Read moreI’ve Loved Velvett in the past. Working in hospitality its great to see lounges/bars keep up amazing food, good music and good vibes.
However if you visit on a Friday Night like I did, the bouncer may not let you in at the gate if you’re a woman with other women in your group. He may insult and shout at you and your friends while spewing condescending remarks, he may tell you that unless you beg him you will not be let in.
I’ve been to many places in Lagos of higher caliber & work in an 5 star establishment. I have never been spoken to and will never tell security at my hotel to speak to ANYONE the way the bouncers at Velvett spoke to my friends and I. Definitely sad that women can't go to Velvett without the company of men and be treated well.
Will no longer be patronising Velvett or Izanagi with my hard...
