We were staying at Clarion, The Hub, and it was the night of our anniversary. We asked the concierge where to go for a really amazing meal. He said, I don't want you to think I'm biased, but the restaurant on the 13th floor called Norda is truly spectacular. He wasn't kidding. The only thing better than the food was the service. We already had pretty good expectations by how amazing the rest of the hotel had been to us. So, when I say this restaurant exceeded those expectations, well.... that's not easy to do.
We were greeted by the Sommelier, who's specialty is wine and pairing the proper wine with your food. I'm not going to lie this guy was impressive. His name was Tiago Fenneina. He was a wealth of information, not just with wine, but with other things to do in Oslo.
Our food was simply amazing. I have to say I was very impressed. My wife and I had the steak and it was properly cooked and absolutely delicious. As we were finishing up dinner, I had asked Tiago what the people next to us were eating. He said they were having the Reindeer Lasagna made with wonton. I informed him I have no idea what that would taste like as I have never had reindeer. Apparently this is a delicacy in Norway. After a brief chat, Tiago, disappeared and came back with the head chef. His name was David Figo. He was the creator of the Reindeer Lasagna and was very upset to find out that I had never tried reindeer. 20 minutes later, he came out with a full plate for my wife and I to try. No charge. He just thought we might like to try it. What a kind thing to do. I'm not going to lie, I didn't know what to expect. But I have to tell you, it was amazing. Very flavorful. Then to find out this man invented this type of entree, well, that was truly impressive. David was very excited to know that we were enjoying it. Since the restaurant had slowed a little by now he was able to sit with us and talk to us how he came up with this wonderful meal. It was interesting to get to know the person who, not only cooked our original meal, but created the one we just had... Both being fantastic.
Even our server, Aisha Cabrera was fantastic. Our drinks never ran dry, and she always made sure we had whatever we needed. There was never a wait.
One other thing I should note, they have an amazing view and you can walk out onto a balcony that's unobstructed.
If you want to take your significant other to a very classy place, where the food is top-notch and the service is First rate, then you need to...
Read moreI have been here several times and I really like the atmosphere and the interior. I think the concept is a winner concept. Our recent visit was on a sunny late August day and the point was enjoying the nice weather. 2 things that were making it not easy; Calmeyers Hage is on the shadow side for enjoying the evening sun, so no go. Norda has no dining table available outdoors for more than 2 people. However, our waiter did her best to place us close to outdoor space and with as much sun as possible. I appreciate Renata's effort. She was very attentive for the rest of the evening and made us feel home. The food was very delicious and the portion sizes were well fitting, Burger, Cesar salad and lobster roll were our choice and we loved all of them. Can't say the same about the deserts. White chocolate cheesecake was very good but the rhubarb desert was absolutely horrible! I don't know what that was supposed to taste but the taste I got is not appropriate to write here. All 3 of us tried it and we agreed about it. So stay away from the rhubarb desert. Another interesting thing was; we had a booking originally for 20:00 and I called to change it to earlier time to enjoy the evening sun. When I called I was told 19:00 was full so it had to be 18:30 or 18:45. 18:30 was perfect for us, so no problem. But when we arrived there at 18:20 and left at 22:00, we only saw max 6-8 tables occupied. It's a Tuesday evening and I am not expecting it to be full house but claiming they were full sounds weird and damages the trust for later on. Because it's a...
Read moreThe service was good, and our server Anna was wonderful, but I felt sorry for her having to represent the kitchen and hotel that doesn't deliver what it should. The food was awful!! We were 5 people and we were hugely disappointed! Three of us ordered the entrecôte (the steaks were not cheap), and all three were cold including the vegetables (2 asparagus sprigs) and the steaks were either undercooked, or overcooked. Mine was actually raw inside, one was rare, and the third well done, but we all ordered medium. Our server relayed the information to the chef who apparently didn't care. He offered to reheat my steak, most likely microwave it as it was cooked via Sous vide and not finished on the grill as it also looked like it had been boiled. Not only is it expensive but also the vegetables are extremely small and the smallest amount of french fries I have ever had when ordering such a steak. Unfortunately, I would not recommend the restaurant to anyone. It's not enough to open a high-profile hotel with a supposed fancy kitchen if what's delivered is not edible, overpriced and extremely...
