We came to Roots for a late lunch before starting exploring Oslo.

We love Mediterranean food (it is really difficult to spoil meat and vegetables), so looking at high Google ratings this restaurant felt like a "satisfaction guaranteed" choice.

Having arrived at the spot on Google maps, it took us several minutes to figure out where the entrance 🚪 is. Not obvious - the restaurant is in the basement.

Fairly spacious and nicely decorated we studied a fairly rich menu (both Norwegian and English). We settled on a couple of starters, soup, salad and mixed grill.

The starters and salad were nice and fresh. Soup, with fresh bread, was creamy and tasty 👍🏼

⚠️ Sadly the mixed grill was burned and whatever we managed to salvage was super dry :( What kind of chef messes up grilled meat for the only pair of customers?

I was hoping we would have a chance to mention it to the waiter... She never bothered to come by and ask :-[

💲Our meal cost us just over 1000 Nok (no alcohol). Our previous dinner cost half of that and was twice as pleasant.

⚠️ Advice to the staff and owners - consider reviewing the quality of your food...

This place is sort of a Tourist Trap. The good rating in google Maps got us fooled. We paid 1000kr for a very low value meal. The restaurant is downstairs of another restaurant, difficult to find, no windows and a little claustrophobic (expect your clothes to get food scent for the rest of your day). We got the most uncomfortable table (right at the door in a narrow alley just midway to the WC) even when the restaurant was almost empty. Food was pretty mediocre. Being fans of libanese and turkish food, this was nothing like it. Meat and chicken very dry… curry flavored chicken. Vegetables with HEAVY CREAM. The waiter was lowkey rude. 1000€ for 2 kibbeh, a dry chicken breast and a dry beef with...

Although it operates under a new social-media handle, this restaurant is essentially the same venue as KosKos. Tucked away underground with no windows, the dining room feels a bit claustrophobic.

The dishes arrive looking impressive, but the flavors don’t live up to the presentation. The lamb was difficult to chew, while the chicken was merely average.

Service didn’t improve matters—the waiter came across as brusque and unwelcoming.

All things considered, the experience falls short of its price point; you simply don’t get...

Roots is a place in Oslo that offer food from the eastern part of the mediterranean. Their menu have a good variety of food. It is expensive compared to what you get. We had a good experience and the food was good. Unfortunately the meat was dry. Even tho the meat was dry, the rest had so much spices, so it tasted good anyways. 7/10. Too expensive, but I would like to go here again.
