We were unable to find any decent hotel that is near the old city online that we can reserve. Our first night we stayed at Data Darbar and the noise was endless. We also looked for accommodation on Regal Chowk , Mall Road but we would have to take rickshaws everywhere we go pretty much and also not very convenient to do any sight-seeing. The first night we stayed at Data Darbar next to the metro bus for 20 rupee per person, only one stop and there is the park next to the fort. We walked to the old city to find hotels for our other 3 nights. We found the new food street which is near the Roshnai Gate and sadly due to security reasons this gate has been closed for 2 years. Therefore, many restaurants and hotels on this new food street are closed. Right in front of the gate is this Hotel Fort View & Restaurant and only one other restaurant and few shops on the other side of this pedestrian street. The ricksaw can only drop you off in front of the security gate which is open 24/7 and guarded by many very helpful friendly guards. From the security gate to the hotel is about a 20 second walk, no honking sounds, just the beautiful wall and the old gate with Badshahi Mosque behind it (which you can get the most perfect view on their rooftop restaurant). We could go on and on, this place have given us such good experience and memories in Lahore. This is a Jewel that can't be miss seeing when visiting Lahore. For eating or staying! There is even a big vast old city behind to explore. We walked from the Delhi Gate passing the food street back to our hotel which supposedly if you are just walking from one point to another, local people said 45mins... but for us, too many things to see and do.. so about 3-4 hours =) Just exquisite, so blessed to have found this hotel & restaurant. Would rate this property higher if we could. They have just too much to offer, and with great hospitality overall from top to bottom hotel to restaurant. Not a single person wasn't just overflowing with kindness and generosity. We would leave the rest for you to start your adventure in Lahore, Pakistan. Read moreLet me begin by saying I do not post negative reviews unless obviously required. There were two instances when we made our minds to go back and not eat here. 1- They told us that the area is fully air conditioned upstairs. We just have to take the elevators. And the food is good which I would say ONLY BBQ platter is worth mentioning where we were not disappointed. We took elevator, went 4th floor - empty floor where two attendants were standing in hot temperature with a broken cooler running. They said we do not have air conditioners. Lolz! I returned towards the elevator and told them that you guys lied to just get us up here. They started to request to check the final top floor with view where they have chillers installed. My youngest daughter with special needs was having a stress episode, so I gave in and my sister went to see the too floor. She said it is seat able. Added to the 4 floors of elevator, there were 2-3 further floors to climb to reach a tiny roof top with 4 tables. At this point my focus is getting my daughter calm down as I have already made a lot of decision- making mistakes. The chillers were just HUGE hot-air-throwing machines!!🤦♀️ We ordered bbq platter and Chinese egg fried rice with black pepper chicken which was not black pepper at all, it was everything but black pepper! The food came 40 minutes later. The ice we asked for came after 4 reminders. The fresh lime was half glasses and when complained, even the manager didn't care enough and never returned to the table to fix the problem. With families sitting, they were playing the most hideous songs anyone can think of listening at that moment. I had to ask the server to shut the songs down and then they started playing instrumentals. It is very rare that I do not leave tips on my table - but this was such horrible experience I just wanted to run away. The background scenes were pretty which in no way is there credit to take. Thanks to Lahore history for that!
I would feel bad for not going to Haveli and threw our visiting Pakistan experience on this disappointment. Do not...
Read moreThe food is certainly reasonably priced and there is quite a variety. It's a tourist spot, and doesn't give a feel for the true "food street" experience. That's a couple of blocks away.||Still, the view makes up for it. It is truly spectacular - especially at night. Here are some tips:||* If you are sensitive to spicy, make sure to have "not spicy" in Urdu written or know how to say it. One of our party ordered something not spicy, and it turned out more spicy than the other dishes.||* We were surprised to see that the raita they offered was served in a package - like you would buy at the store. It wasn't expensive, but they can't make their own?||* The naan was huge and delicious - order just one for the table. We liked the garlic variety.||* We tried the chicken handi, chicken ginger, a dish with just chicken legs (we can't remember the name) and the chicken kebab (which we ordered not spicy, but it turned out to be spicy). All the dishes were served hot and there was enough that we couldn't eat it all.||* Bring your camera or be ready to take photos. This is a great place to have your photo taken as a memento for your trip.||* Since it's on the rooftop, be prepared to climb some stairs. There is an elevator that goes most of the way to the top, but there are a couple of flights that might be difficult for some people. ||* Wear mosquito repellant. Dengue fever is starting to be bad here, so it's best if you wear your repellant in advance so as not to worry. This is true ANYWHERE in Pakistan at dawn or dusk. It's just good practice.||* The value for the money when you combine the food and the view is well worth it. We'd take guests there, but perhaps only for dessert (ras malai) or coffee on the rooftop after visiting a true "food street" experience a couple of blocks away. ||NOTE: Maqbool from Pakistan Guided Tours provided us with the suggestion and made the...
