This place is about 15min walk from the main square, in a local part of town (no fancy tourist stuff in sight), and has a set daily menu with a couple options consisting of a soup and an entre for 9 PEN. My wife and I have been eating dinner here the last few nights and haven't seen another foreigner. The place is friendly, the food healthy and delicious - economical price aside, the taste meets or exceeds the top rated veg restaurants near the square at a fraction of the price (though there are less options and local flavors only, if that matters to you.)

This spot is nothing but local source ingredients. It’s not tourist price price for locals, which makes it amazing value for your money and an amazing meal. No frills, soul food. We got a hearty soup, the mains of the day (quinoa and potato gravy AND roasted veggies with beans and rice), and a yogurt (slightly sweet but delicious).
