I went to Kuya J the last time we were in Philippines and I enjoyed the food so I thought of going back. We went 2 days ago just after 1pm. It was not busy at all compared to the restaurant next door serving different types of steak. My hubby and BIL wanted to have steak but i insisted on going to Kuya J. We ordered garlic fried rice, crispy pata, spring rolls, bangus, pinakbet, ensaladang ampalaya and chicken sisig. The garlic fried rice was served cold (i kid you not, like it was a left over from the day before. How hard it is to cook fried rice????). We complained about it and they replaced it with a warm fried rice (did they just heat the rice in the microwave?). The ensaladang ampalaya was literally sliced fresh ampalaya ( not blanched) with dilis and red onions. You can just imagine how bitter the ampalaya. The crispy pata was on the salty side otherwise ok. Same with the bangus and spring rolls. The crispy pinakbet was actually tempura with mayonnaise and bagoong ( i think ) on the side. I think they were trying to elevate the dish but unfortunately it was a failure. The chicken sisig though was good.
Lastly, the comfort room. It was only about 1pm when we went but the CR was already smelly and disgusting. Liked it was not cleaned before they opened the restaurant. I ended up using the CR near the cinnabon as I could not stand the smell.
Sadly, this branch has gone downhill. No wonder it was not busy when we came considering it was 1pm. That should have been a red flag.
I hope they will improve this place otherwise they will loose more customers. I dont think I will ever come back. I paid over 3k and I was not even happy with what I ate (except...

Came in at around quarter past 12 with my family. The restaurant was a bit busy, there were only 2 servers on the floor when we arrived. We waited for about 15 mins for our table to be ready. After that, nobody came to assist us with our orders, like another 15 mins wait to be served. I was really hungry at that moment. I then approached one of the servers and told them we are ready to order. We ordered bulalo, chopsuey, fried chicken and garlic rice. We waited for an hour before the food was served. Water were given when we just almost done with our food and no tissue given to our table. I felt discriminated as other table were served completely.
My family enjoyed the bulalo the most but then while we are sipping the soup of the bulalo there was a fly😭 I informed the slim guy who served us about the fly on the food, he didn't apologize but offered to change the food. The bulalo he gave us was not hot.
Food was not quality (there was fly on the food)🤢 No tissue Serving time take an hour Staffs are not that...
Read moreIf they tell you the palabok is masarap it's not true - walang lasa and it's not worth 165 pesos + VAT. If we believed them that it serves 3, my wife and I would have still been hungry, so taking the combination of konting portion, sobrang mahal at walang lasa they would get just 1 star.
However, luckily we also ordered the bicol express, which is really masarap and swak na maanghang. In fact, you wouldn't think these two dishes came from the same restaurant!
The garlic rice was not bad, and we didn't order anything else so can't comment on whether it's just the palabok that's walang lasa and all the other ulam ay masarap, or the bicol express lang ay masarap and all the rest ay walang lasa.
If you're brave, give it a go and write your review - just don't bother ordering...
