Visited the restaurant with some work colleagues in consideration of the heavy rain we've been having the past few week.
First time ordering the Black King Ramen (P495.00) 3.0. Didn't read too much into the description in the menu but was drawn into the novelty of having black soup broth.
The ramen was pretty okay for someone who doesn't crave for ramen. It's distinct from the usual shoyu, shio, and tantanmen and may be black bean based.
I personally would have preferred having chashu pork slices instead of the chunk of pork belly that I got. The pork belly was soft enough but chashu feels like a better fit.
I also found the noodles to be a bit less than what I usually get (in the few times I have ramen). I typically feel very full when having ramen and didn't feel this way despite clearing my bowl. Maybe this is a good thing? You can order additional servings of noodles if needed.
Service was attentive and I was able to get my glass of water refilled quickly. I wish there was an option for house tea as is common in Japanese restaurants.
The restaurant can get full easily and there was a line of over 10 people waiting by the time we finished our meal (at...
Read moreWalking around Valero, this Japanese Kiosk attracted my attention so I went in to try out for my lunch. I waited for about 10 mins since it was just a small restaurant and was quite full during lunch time. I ordered the BUTAO KING, a huge serving of Ramen with a level 1 of spiciness. You have an option of what you want to add to the broth. For my ramen, i choose their pork belly as against the pork shoulder and green cabbage instead of green onions as toppings. The dish doesnt come with tamago so if you want, you can add it as an extra. A regular serving of ramen costs from Php 395 to 495. with tamago add Php60 plus 10% service charge so +- Php500. Honestly i have tasted more flavorful ramen broth without that salty after taste. I can't enjoy the soup if its too salty. You cant fixed that anymore. I wouldve have preferred it a bit bland cos you can add condiments to adjust the flavor but if its salty..its difficult to cover that taste. The add-ons on the ramen itself is ok. Egg is quite good, huge chunk of pork belly which is tender is ok too. I dont mind paying 500 just for a ramen as long its really good but for the Butao King, its a bit...
Read moreDespite it being busy during lunchtime, you can still be seated after short waiting time as they really maximized the space. Food was okay, I like the customizable options and spiciness but at first they didn't allow 2 bowls to have half serving cabbage and half serving green onions in each bowl. Their immediate response is always "no" until we asked for the manager's assistance. Food would've been fine except.. the edamame is clearly old, chewy and must have been defrosted before boiled bec it also has a sour taste to it. It even arrived yellowish and just looking old, we didn't eat it. Food is not extremely bad and some of the servers are okay but for 580 pesos ramen, I don't think it's worth it. It's the same price as Ippudo and Mendokoro but you don't have to order the Tamago separately and the broth soup tastes more legit meat broth taste than a forced broth drenched in miso (umami) and sauces. Plus in Ippudo or Mendokoro, they don't charge you anymore for extra green onions or whatever as long as you don't overdo your request. One thing good though, the pork belly is really roasted well. I don't think I would return but maybe it's...
