Blackfish Coffee Bar — Restaurant in Malay

Great ambiance, good beverages and staff except for the MANAGER. We we’re staying at station 2 and we intentionally went to station 1 for pizza at Two Seasons and beverages at BlackFish. We are 4 adults and 2 minors ages 16 and 15 years old. Coming from Two Seasons we walked through the beach going to BF. Our first impression of the cafe ambiance and staff are excellent. We wanted to rinse the sand from our feet and legs so we all went one by one to the restroom to remove the sand after we made our orders except for one minor since she was still in the restroom. After the 5 orders was served the courteous waiter approached us to ask the last person from our group to come and meet the manger in-front of the restroom. This person is a minor (15years old). We all asked the waiter why however the waiter said the manager would like to speak with her. The minor’s parent requested the manager to approach us instead to discuss the issue, but request was ignored. I went to the manager to fix the issue. Manager’s issue was a simple no rinsing of sandy feet in the restroom. A signage was placed inside the restroom however it is not noticeable. In behalf of our group I apologized and asked the manager for what solution he would like to demand. He said just a verbal warning will be fine. Going back to our table, we all noticed that the 2 minors are uncomfortable and frightened by the manager to the point that 1 minor refused to make an order and the other refused to even touch her beverages. Blackfish beverages prices are not cheap, they can easily compete and win against Starbucks. Honestly the waiter handled our issue so much better than that high and mighty manager. The manager doesn’t have customer handling skills. Informing us about the issue and scolding are different, unfortunately we were scolded. He should have handled us better. Will never be coming back nor recommend BF no matter how good their products are.

PS: After we left, we hired someone to go give a letter to the manager specifically stating he should have handled us better and an attached P250...

Blackfish has a good selection of coffee. I think the aesthetic will really pull you in considering the surfacing trends will really attract you to their shop.

Tbh, sometimes I feel that the aesthetic of a shop is one of the biggest* factors to why people will visit a place and what they serve is just a huge bonus if it's good.

Good thing they check both boxes.

Anywho, we discovered Blackfish on a rainy day and by accident! We saw this cafe on TikTok but never really searched for it to know where it was. Well, to our surprise this cafe is situated inside an alleyway and it's still being visited by a lot of people.

We ordered the the Blackfish Coffee and it was quite good! The only thing I can say is that it is quite pricey but I guess who doesn't pay for overpriced coffee in this day and age? Hehe. This is why paminsan-minsan ko lang babalikan pero for sure, babalikan ulit. (English translation: this is why I will keep coming back, not all the time but will definitely go back to again).

Overall, this is one of the coffee shops that we do keep coming back to for because of their coffee but also to get a dose of their servers joyful energy. This server is really pleasant to have around and happy every time we are there without fail. I think this servers' energy radiates to the people he/she encounters.

I've been here for many times and kept bringing more friends to here ever since last year to support independent boutique cafe even though it's a bit hidden and pricey. But until today, I really have to say. I will never come back anymore. And I never will recommend any friends to come again neither. Coffee and desserts are super different from before. Not tasty at all. Coffee are watery and super sweet even I said minimal sweenter. Worst part, they dispay the "Gcash available" card at the counter before we order but they don't accept Gcash when we billed out. And, I was sure I asked very politely that if they could adjust the music volume just for a few minutes cuz my boyfriend received an important call and it would be fast. And I checked around to make sure there's no other customers to be affected before I asked. Buy they just rejected. Yes they really just directly rejected saying the volume is fixed and not controllable. You really don't expect food/drink and services like this after you took some efforts to be here. Anyway. JUST A SUPER DISAPPOINTED RETURNED CUSTOMER WHO WON'T COME...
