Was treated to a fantastic birthday treat for a friend at 1 Michelin Star (Singapore) restaurant, Putien. This particular branch is located at the 2nd floor of Mitsukoshi Mall right beside El Born.
Putien showcases a different take on Chinese food which is geared more towards seafood with the cooking style of Putian in the Fujian province of China.
The Kitchener Road restaurant in Singapore started by Uncle Fong was given a Michelin Star in 2019 but has been part of the Michelin Guide as a Bib Gourmand. It has been recognized by Michelin for 6 years now.
This was brought to the Philippines by the Vikings Group and currently has 3 Manila branches.
We asked our alert and knowledgeable server, Gio for their bestsellers which would appeal to those not accustomed to Fujian cuisine.
Food - 5*, Gio presented us with an array of delicious and easy to like dishes. We got their Fujian Red Mushroom Lor Mee (₱568 M), Putien Crispy Oyster (₱658 M), Sweet and Sour Pork with Lychees (₱588 M, 2 orders), Deep-Fried Chicken with Garlic (₱968), Putien style Pork Ribs (₱168 each, 3 pieces), Deep-Fried Pork Trotters with Salt and Pepper (₱268 each, 5 pieces), Stir-Fried Kailan with Beancurd Skin (₱588 M), Steamed rice (₱50 each).
For dessert, we had Deep-Fried Durian Puree (₱168), Pumpkin Cream with Ice Cream (₱168), Glutinous Rice Cake with Sesame and Grated Peanut (₱168) and Double Boiled Pear with Osmanthus and Mandarin peel (₱168).
The quality and taste of the food coupled with the impeccable service makes it worthy of the star. Though, the Singapore store was the one directly responsible for the accolade.
Service - 5*, Superb, we stayed in a private room for 10 with a consumable rate of ₱15,000. Gio was unobtrusive yet ever present. Eager to help but not belligerent. The room had a max time of 3 hours but since there was no seating after us, we stayed about 4 hours and he was ably replaced by the charming Cristine when his breaktime came up.
Atmosphere - 5*, clean, functional and inviting
Parking - 5*, plentiful at the basement parking...

Our server guided us to our seats with glass view of mitsukoshi. She was super attentive to our needs! Now onto the foods! I felt nothing special witht he pork intestine, I thought there'd be no bitter taste but I was wrong. Appetizer plate was really appetising, their seaweed was refreshing to the tongue (one of the crowd faves) The fried oyster was definitely a must try! Unlike other chinese cuisine where it looks like an oyster omelette, their is real crunchy and paired with their homemade chili sauce it was hard to beat!(This is a Singaporean cuisine but is closely related to Chinese cuisine) The 100-second croaker fish was tender and melts in your mouth! Although there's fishbones, its easy to eat once you remove the middle bone. The fried croaker was just fried fish, compare to the 100-second one it has less of that umami flavor. Stir fried spicy abalone and pork was another favorite! Im not sure if they used bell pepper but it was good! The spiciness doesn't linger and it definitely worked up our appetites! Shredded pork bun was anothe favorite of mine the bun was crispy yet it wasn't oily! Our server helped us portioned and stuff the pork on the buns! If you order this you better eat it or have it serve later as it easily gets cold and the bun would've been more delicious if its hot. The lormie wasn't a big hit, as Filipinos we prefer the rice butttt this lor mie was full of flavors! Althoughhh its giving sopad vibes haha The seeweed rice was enormous (we order medium size) its was flavorful and not at all fishy! and doesn't give me that umay factor that Im just eating sushi.
It was a great experience and its not as expensive as we thought it would be! The also have bog portions! The staff made the experience really hundred times better, their always aware of their tables like when one of our chopsticks fell and before we asked for new one we were immediately given a new set! I hope the service don't decline!
Will definitely go back to try...
Read moreDining at Putien Mitsukoshi BGC is an exquisite experience that gracefully balances tradition, quality, and elegance. Known for its authentic Fujian cuisine, this restaurant doesn’t just serve food it offers a culinary journey that feels both refined and deeply comforting.
From the moment you step into the beautifully lit and serene space, you’re welcomed with warm service and an inviting table setting. We started our meal with a delightful selection of appetizers cold starters beautifully plated in minimalist white ceramics, with vibrant garnishes that reflect the attention to detail.
The true showstopper, however, was the crispy whole fish in sweet and sour sauce a visual and gustatory masterpiece. Its golden crust was perfectly crisp, while the inside remained juicy and tender. Topped with colorful diced peppers and onions, the sauce struck the ideal balance between tangy and sweet, elevating the fish without overpowering its...
