Bar Leon — Restaurant in Gdansk

We recently dined at Bar Leon, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The service was outstanding, and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. We were a group of four and unfamiliar with the menu, which features Middle Eastern and Arab cuisine. Unsure of what to order, we asked for recommendations and were advised to share 6-8 dishes. This turned out to be an excellent suggestion, as every dish we tried was absolutely delightful.

Leon isn't just good, it's the kind of place that haunts you with memories of flavor long after you've left. Yeah, the wine list is stellar—but it's the food that keeps me coming back like a guilty pleasure. Sure, it looks like the domain of expense accounts and special occasions, but there's an honesty here that transcends pretense. The caramelised carrots with feta and zucchini? A humble vegetable elevated to something magnificent through fire and fat. The salmon is equally transcendent. A nice place for meeting friends. The wine selection is very interesting and they have some lovely natural wines. The prices however are a bit too high, specially when you see the size of a glass. I don’t understand why they don’t have the 125-175-250 ml options. Also, they are always very reluctant to open a new bottle if you’re only looking to buy a glass or two. They will rather tell you which wines they have open. They do so because these wines are natural with no preservatives and go off quite fast. I understand that yet I don’t find it very fair.
