Great buns. Bun quality is fabulous. Soft, made well.
First time, ordered 2 buns with shrimp, nice tasting shrimp, and the crunchy side salad was lovely.
For a restaurant catering to Polish people, Id say this is the place, as its fushion and Łagodna, it is a good compromise for Polish people and other tourists too afraid of stronger Asian flavours.
For people who want a bit more Asian flair, Id say its lacking in some Asian seasonings, (Izakaya across the road is more experimental and does their garnishes exceptionally well, but its a different restaurant, ie Japanese fushion). If I wanted something with a bit more flavour Id say things were lacking cillantro/Coriander, lime, spice level, sesame oil, ginger and soy or tamari. Maybe a touch more of rice vinegar.
The side salad to the buns is a super nice touch, its fresh and crispy and I could taste a hint of Asian mayo or sesame, but the carrots in it were too much like Polish carrot surόwka, so then the Polish surόwka almost overpowered what little Asian flavour essence they tried to add. It was crisp, though, so an absolute perfect side dish to these beautiful buns.
I suppose more condiment options would be maybe a compromise as I think the Łagodna aspect of the food probably hits its target demographic, older couples, tourists, traveling Polish people since naturally its in the center people look for safe places to eat with a central easy location.
Service good, nice staff. Gorgeous design, modern, clean and beautifully arranged. A comment to the restaurant for one criticism, some guests are non-confrontational and its embarrassing for us to ask the poor wait staff to bring us another prosecco if its come from a bottle where the gas has run out, we will just drink it, its not the servers fault. Yes, prosecco has a shelf life of 1 day, so your bar staff needs to simply open a new bottle and not serve flat prosecco. Its a loss, but at 14 a glass for standard prosecco you simply need to eat the loss. If there are bubbles its good. If there are no bubbles, let your wait staff drink the rest when they finish work.
Great place look forward to trying other dishes, and hoping in the future there may be more spice and. Asian flavour added, but I still give a high rating. I can see that the quality overall is very high for the food I was able to see what other people got, and all of it looked great.
I was outside, thankfully, but guys, chill out with the music,...
Read moreFood: if you are so unlucky to order their curry bowl you will be delivered a tasteless watery compound and some veggies floating on it, and a scoop of rice on the side. So you get a huge soup when you thought you would eat rice veggie shrimps with some red thai souce on it.
Service: youngsters without any clue of customer service applied to restaurant business. Simply unprepared in waitering and rude. When I motivated my rejection of the curry being actually a huge bowl of broth their reaction was that they didn't care at all and that I had to pay for it. Then a waiter came back offering a price cut of 50% on what they call curry. At the end in the bill the reduction was not even 20%. His answer: he had to "enforce" the Polish restaurant law on us foreigners, according to which consumer has no rights to complain about the inadecuacy of the food served.
End of the story: 2 waiters all together came up to me on pointing the finger to a tiny picture in the menu , which had nothing to do with the broth they call curry. And, cherry on the top, they started to threaten to call the police if I would not pay. And kept on saying that this is the Polish law.
"Panasian" fake food served by second-hand students. To complete the end of the drama I was also told by the main waiter that I was not welcomed any more in their place. As if somebody would ever dare...
Read moreFood: I tried the red curry bowl with shrimp, and I base my review solely on that dish.
Positive: Portion was pretty big, and it was not expensive. Vegetables were good, and the default spice level was ok if you don't eat a lot of spicy food.
Negative: The broth was ok, but it was not as complex as you would expect at a restaurant. It could use some more depth of flavor. I have bought a bag of similar quality premade red curry from a grocery store, and I make a better one at home (I'm no chef). There was also not a lot of shrimp in there. I also asked for very spicy, but was given the same as everyone else, but with a small saucer of sriracha sauce on the side. That's just not good enough. If they don't make it from scratch, then at least add some chili flakes, or give me some spice to mix in the broth. The sriracha will change the flavor too much. It feels lazy.
Service: Staff were young and seemingly a little unexperienced. They were in good spirits and polite, but were a bit sloppy, like getting us the bill without us asking. Turns out they were at the wrong table. They also were not very knowledgeable regarding the menu.
Overall: I'm sorry, but even though the food and service was OK, this was probably the worst experience I've had in Gdansk so far. It was not bad, but just underwhelming in a location where there are a lot of...
