Kawiarnia Retro — Restaurant in Gdansk

Kawiarnia Retro offers a good dining experience that is worth a visit. The food at this café was enjoyable, with a decent variety of options to choose from. This used to be my favourite café in Gdańsk. Sadly, it has deteriorated so much, both service and quality-wise.

Off the top of my head:

1. The laminated paper menus are sticky. This is gross to touch, sorry. You're not a cheap kebab place and can definitely do better.
2. It takes about 30min to even place an order (only after I called for the server's attention)
3. After placing the order, it takes about 40 min to be served 2 cappuccinos and a juice. What takes you so long? I won't mention the fact both our coffees arrived lukewarm. The only reason why I didn't raise the issue with a staff member was I didn't have another 40 mins to wait for the coffee to be replaced 🙈
4. And for the final touch (pun intended): for the price of the coffees/drinks, one would expect something better than sandpaper instead of toilet paper in the lavatories...

I don't know if the staff are overwhelmed or what the reason was behind the terrible functioning of the service, but the place wasn't even 50% full (!). I've been visiting every time I travel to Gdańsk but after today I'm not compelled...

No longer retro... It used to be my favourite place in Gdańsk for breakfast and coffee. It was very cosy, intimate, and nicely decorated. I arrived this year, and the interior has greatly changed! Our cosy corner has been exposed, retro lamps replaced with god knows what (the colour is burgundy, so I guess whoever changed it, thought it meant that they fit. And the elephant on the room: the horrible tile floor that might fit in a swimming pool or minimalistic kitchen! I can't unsee it. On top of that our favourite breakfast oatmeal choice has been reduced to one, that is not to our taste. I am happy to say the cake choice is still great, matcha latte and coffee still good. Wonderful place! Great choice of glutenfree cakes, vegan options for desserts and milk, and all tasting wonderfully! I had a best millet cheesecake ever :) My not so easily satisfied daugher asked me to post this review because she loved the hot Biilie Holiday chocolate with caramel!...
