This is a hot table in KRK these days and unable to score one for a Friday or Saturday we had Sunday dinner there instead. Even then the place was packed and it is not a small restaurant. We had a nice corner table for 4 but couples were enjoying the long counter overlooking the action in the open kitchen. Service is brisk and there is no shortage of folks working the floor so drinks and meals came out promptly. There were some hits and there were some suprising misses... I though the best plate of the evening was the house- made kashanka. Delicate and sitting in a pool of tangy sauce it was much better than the croquettes which were ruined with the draping of ham which did absolutely nothing for them. For the mains the lamb was popular ( though I though the bite I tried was a bit too gamey ) but the Mangalica pork belly was overshadowed by the the overpowering flavor of the ndjua based sauce which completely masked the flavor of the pork. The added mussles tasted more like the smoked kind you find in a can rather than fresh ones I was told they were ( served without shells it was hard to say and they added nothing to the dish....... once again, like the pork , victims of the smoky sauce... a pretty dish but disappointing..... as were the salads ... complete non-events....Meh... The chicken in veloute sauce was tasty... the small portion of chicken helped along by the richness of the sauce which in the end made it quite filling... and the sides of fries were big hits ....pipping hot , tasting of truffles and topped with melting cheese. Yummy! The coconut " pudding " however, was a total disaster.. First of all it wasn't pudding... which in the USA and Poland we associate with a rich , creamy comforting desert... Here it was a few dry slabs of merengue?? and some crushed fruit... wretched indeed.. The ice cream with carmel sauce was much better... Good beer on tap! .. I liked the Pilsner and the girls split a decent bottle of German Riesling which at 190 Zlotych was on low end of the wine list...... so some hits and some...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I enjoyed a wonderful Friday evening at Bufet after a long, tough week at work. All we wanted was good food and decent service, and Bufet, along with its delightful staff that evening, delivered exactly that. We had a reservation in the restaurant section, but they also offer the option to book a seat at the chef's table, which looked fascinating. They have an excellent selection of wines and cocktails, and it's always a pleasure to watch the bartenders skillfully shake and stir drinks not far from where you sit. The staff were reasonably quick, very helpful, and eager to explain the concept and even offer recommendations if it’s your first time dining there. We’ll definitely be back! Here's what we had;
• bread/butter (it was so nice! you can even buy one for 18 PLN / 4 EUR and take home) • grilled cucumbers/straciatella/polish wasabi/dill oil (the taste is so nice and fresh that it takes you to a Mediterranean coast for a while. I really thought about having a glass of ouzo if they had it) • pork terrine/pickles/Dijon mustard/swiss chard (it was much better than I expected and went so well with the bread and fries) • black pudding/pepper/charlock/smoked egg yolk (I personally don’t like the idea of eating this type of dishes. The plate was amazingly well dressed though. My girlfriend was not so amazed with the taste I would say) • beef tartare/mushrooms/kale/red currant (we both loved this freshly chopped tartare!) • french fries/ truffle mayonnaise/ Emilgrana cheese (it may sound crazy but we really loved it with the cheese) • my mother's...
Read moreI had high hopes for this restaurant, given all the buzz and sleek presentation, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype as much as I expected. I think the place has potential, however the food, while nicely plated, was underwhelming. Best of show goes to the cucumber salad, (long time on the menu for a reason). Chicken as main - underdelivered, some pieces were quite chewy, plate size seemed like tapas but it was the price ( almost 20€!) that was a real choker … Ceviche - lacked acidity and this thing that ceviche should have, a blast of freshness and a crisp taste. Nice presentation, but not a thing to remember and come back for. Potato puree - splendid, but quite pricey to be a side ( 6€), nice bread, butter wayyy too soft, on the border to send it back actually. The cocktails were light on flavor annd didn’t quite hit the mark. Overall, ok experience , but expected way more. At the end of the day, it’s the food that should stand out — and here, it just didn’t. Dishes lacked the depth of flavor you’d expect at this price point. Expect tapas-sized dishes for a price of main. Service - nice, responsive and qualified, the kitchen was quick — food arrived shortly after we ordered. In my opinion, this spot might work for a casual night out, but it falls short if you’re looking for a satisfying,...
