Restaurant Pod Zlota Pipa is located as many in Kraków in the underground. It was late when we got in and majority of the restaurants of our choice had closed the kitchen already. The waiting had brought us to the table and handled the menu over. We ordered some Polish red wine based on previous experience which was excellent. The waiter was struggling to open the bottle. "It is first time I do open bottle of this add sort wine", he said. The wine was no different to any other one we had so far. Unfortunately the wine was off or something was wrong with that as the smell and taste were awful. We had to send it back and ask for another sort. There wasn't much choice for a non meat eater but as hungry I was did choose the cod in mozzarella. The waiter struggled again with our order. Do we want one portion each or two? As there is only two of us and we do not see double yet, just one each please. Where my partner had a Polish sausage you can't do much wrong to that, my cod arrived in a thick layer of mozzarella. Unfortunately there was no taste to it. Absolutely nothing. If you had served me some toilet paper with oil and two basil leaves on it, there would be no difference. Asked for salt and pepper and informed waiter that the seasoning was missing. No answer, salt and pepper arrived. On the request for more water, we have been told that there may be a chance to get a larger bottle. I've put lots of salt and pepper on my dish but couldn't get it right. At the end sent the fish back almost in whole and advised the waiter that there was no taste to it. He thought about it for couple of seconds and said "thank you for the comments". Collected the plates with a sour face and brought the bill. That was all, no sorry or question how to compensate, nothing. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The service was beneath any standards and food missed the taste, quality and presentation. For this price you...
Read moreWell, I've been to this restaurant with my fiancée, at almost 11PM, and... How to describe this experience? It's going to be very complicated. It was wonderful. Firstly, the ambiance and the place has its own style. I use to love modern places full of people, but the calm and choice of design gives this establishment a warm feeling, basically like if you're being home. The personality given to the service was original, kind and fantastic. Despite it isn't a "palace" quality of table art, it changes of what you're used to see. Every dialogue with the staff member have been whether entertaining, educational or interesting. (And you can trust me on this point, I'm directing a gastronomic restaurant in Paris, and still learnt a lot on another culture, Polish one in this case) Regarding the food, this was amazing. Didn't know the Polish gastronomy at all, and made some crazy discovering. Starting with the wine, I've never tried any Polish wine before, and being a red wine amateur, while I was searching a French wine to compare, that was just not findable. It's another kind of wine for another culture and another style of food pairing. I haven't been conquished by its taste, but just discovering it was largely worth the try. Regarding the meals, everything was excellent. The beef tartare was perfectly executed, and this pickle sauce... Just WOW. The pork chop just crushed the Italian milanaise. To conclude you HAVE to go to this place, at least one time during your trip in Krakow. And if you're living there and don't know this place yet, what are you...
Read moreYesterday, the two of us ate honey beer pork chops at a table opposite the toilet of a well-known 4.7-point restaurant near the salt mine. Maybe because the food was not clean, both of us had gastrointestinal discomfort for a day. We lay in the hotel for a day. We didn't have much appetite at night, but we still had to eat something, so we walked to this 4.3-point restaurant. We didn't have any expectations. Unexpectedly, the service lady was very polite and enthusiastic. Although we didn't make a reservation, she also arranged a comfortable seat for us. We only ordered a plate of dumplings and a soup. The dishes were unexpectedly delicious, especially the soup, which was sour and soothing, and finally made our stomachs comfortable. I don't understand why this restaurant only has 4.3 points. It is obviously much better than the 4.7-point restaurant. Maybe sometimes we can't just believe in...
