We came to this restaurant initially hoping for a comforting bowl of żurek—but that quickly became the least important part of the evening.
We were greeted politely by a young and lovely waitress. She was sweet and courteous, explaining that if we’d like to sit further inside, we’d need to wait for the manager. Fair enough.
As we waited, a couple arrived behind us, followed by a family of four. When the manager finally appeared—a short, red-faced, bald man with a smug attitude—my husband asked him (in Polish) if there was a table available for four. The manager said nothing to us, then turned around and took the English-speaking family behind us straight in, seating them without hesitation.
When he returned, my husband asked him (this time in English) whether it would have made a difference if he’d spoken English the first time.
Just so you understand where we’re coming from: My husband has lived in Australia for 20 years. I’m Australian (of Polish background), and I’ve worked in hospitality for over two decades. Currently, I manage customer experience at one of Australia’s largest hospitality companies. We travel often and dine out regularly—whether in Sydney, Melbourne, or places like New York. We've had wonderful service around the world.
I’m sharing this not to be petty, but because this message is really for the owner of the restaurant: if you’re reading this, you might want to reconsider who is managing your venue. Hospitality starts with respect, fairness, and the ability to read the room—none of which we experienced from your manager that evening.
That said, everything happens for a reason. Leaving your restaurant turned out to be a blessing in disguise—we ended up at Nowa Reforma, where we were greeted with warmth, treated with professionalism, and served at a world-class standard. We enjoyed an exceptional meal, left over 500 zł, and had a memorable experience.
So thank you, truly, for not seating us. It led us to a place that did deserve...
Read moreWe recently visited Szalone Wideice hoping for a traditional Polish meal and some good drinks, but unfortunately, the experience fell short of expectations.
We ordered a selection of items, including szalony drinks, a lime and mint cocktail, Polish dumplings, and beef roulades. While the drinks were quite enjoyable and refreshing, especially the fruity cocktails, the food left much to be desired.
As a starter, we were served bread with a Polish paste made of chicken and potatoes. Unfortunately, it tasted far from fresh, and the texture didn’t leave a good impression.
The beef roulades were particularly disappointing. The first few bites were decent, but the dish quickly became overwhelming, heavy, and ultimately unpleasant to finish. The dumplings were also below expectations, lacking freshness and flavor.
The service could definitely be improved — the staff seemed disinterested and inattentive. The wait time for food ranged from 10 to 20 minutes, which would have been acceptable if the quality matched the delay.
The ambiance is far from modern and the place felt noisy, making it hard to relax or enjoy a conversation. The washrooms were not well maintained, which added to the overall poor impression.
If you’re looking for fine dining or an authentic, high-quality Polish food experience, this is not the right place. Despite a promising menu, the execution and atmosphere didn’t meet expectations.
📝 Recommendation: Make a reservation if you still plan to visit, but based on our experience, we do not recommend Szalone Wideice. There are many better options in the city for traditional Polish cuisine and a better...
