This was absolutely amazing. I don't remember the last time I was wowed when visiting a restaurant. The waitresses wear thematic clothing, there's many thematic decorations and the music is perfect. The whole vibe is just right for the Witcher experience. We went there around 15:30 and got lucky enough to only have to wait for about 15 minutes before we got in, but keep in mind that the waiting line can extend all the way up the stairwell leading into the tavern. I suggest you plan when it would be best to visit.
They have a system where you can either pay with złoty or buy a currency called ducats (5zł per 1 ducat) to use that instead to pay for the meals. If you use ducats, you pay less money for your meals, so my suggestion is to decide what you want to get, calculate how many ducats you need and buy that many (If you want to get your money back from leftover ducats, YOU CAN, so no worries).
The food was great. You can see what we had in the pictures and I would recommend the burger out of those two. However, aside from thematic serving platters, it wasn't anything special, and was quite pricey in my opinion. A pulled pork burger that I had was great, but nothing revolutionary, and the pork steak with potatoes was good (not the cabbage tho), but again, too pricey for what it is and nothing special.
The soups were amazing and I absolutely recommend them, they aren't too pricey so that was good.
There are many options when it comes to drinks, but I absolutely recommend getting the potions. They're very pricey for what they are, but it's a unique experience that I've never seen before and, in my opinion, the best part of the whole visit. You have both alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions of potions and you get little bottles filled with various liquids, as well as instructions (English or Polish) on how to make it. The key ingredient is dry ice, which makes your potion bubble and smoke just like you were making a real one, and it's absolutely amazing. The potions tasted great as well. Potion of courage is my personal recommendation, and potion of wisdom as the second option.
I would like to mention that my instructions were a bit confusing due to some colors on the bottles not matching with instructions, but I'd say that despite that, my experience is 10/10.
Be prepared spend quite a bit if you want the soup, potion and main course. My personal bill was around 85zł. However, it's an absolutely...
Read moreThe theme of the restaurant, the decor, as well as the experience itself are really cool. The potions were definitely a highlight, and the ducat payment system is a bit gimmicky, but I see how it could be fun. You do kind of need to know how much you'll be spending to get it right, as you need to purchase the currency before placing your order, which can be a bit annoying, especially if you're a tourist and don't really know how much things are going to cost. They also offer things like axe throwing and archery, which is a nice bonus and goes with the theme.
Unfortunately the praises end here, as we found the place to be overrated. The food was very average. Perhaps you wouldn't realise this if you're not a native, but it did lack flavour. The żurek tasted watery, and it just didn't taste how it's supposed to. The bread bowl it was served in was quite stale too. The gołąbki were really tasteless too and again nowhere near the flavour they should be traditionally. I would say the pierogi were pretty decent though.
The service wasn't the greatest either. We waited on the stairs for a while to be greeted and for someone to take us to our table. Loads of staff were walking past, but no one seemed to take an interest. I understand it can get quite busy, but it honestly wasn't that busy due to being mid week late afternoon / early evening.
Once we were greeted and taken to our table, we were asked to order within a minute of sitting down. We did ask for more time which wasn't a big deal, but we did feel rushed and pressured a little. When the food came we were given no cutlery or salt / pepper, which we had to ask for and again it took a while to arrive. The wait staff were friendly, but the service was just lacking as they were not attentive at all. We're not asking for much, just the basics, and we were made to feel like we're a bit of an inconvenience.
The poor service compared with the below average food means that I can only rate this 3 stars. However the decor and atmosphere are really nice, but I am just not sure if it's...
Read moreA absolutely authentic (well themed) witches tavern and no expense has been spared in making the atmosphere spot on. They have their own currency to add to the feel which you bit as you enter and you use this to pay for meals and drinks
1 dakat = 2.5zt which us approx 50p give or take.
Had 8 pieces of chicken dumplings and garlic dip Pint of beer Triple helping ice cream A cocktail A iced late
And the whole lot was 48 dakat = 120zt which was about 26 GBP very very cheap. Absolutely cracking service. And the detail in the menu and the scripture had been so well thought through. Pictures really don't do it justice as everything was cable lit or orange candle bulbs to go with the ambience
I was left with 30zt (8gbp) and couldn't be bothered to exchange it back and then wait for it to maybe go back on my card. And I couldn't get the gift I wanted from the gift shop so my beautiful waitress offered me a gift I couldn't buy and then took a snap Of me on the kings chair so she earned the huge tip. The average us 5zt usually. She said no but I explained I going home Monday and she served well and added to the experience so she accepted. Honestly they may as well be monopoly money lols so no value except there. But she can change them back up for her currency at the end of the night
Be prepared to queue. Is very popular but was there a little under 2 hours
Only hope this review gets read and passed on to the gorgeous young lady who served me. Have been in Poland since Sunday and have almost always safe clam and relaxed but this was all 3 at the table. My only regret is I couldn't spend more time. She did offer to have a photo taken with me. Truly sorry to be leaving you behind!
I absolutely love what you guys have going here. Would be so nice to open a similar venture in the UK especially my neck of the woods up in Scotland. Can imagine this would go...
