Last week my family and I went for a long walk through town. We were out several hours and at some point we saw this adorable little place and I pinned it in Maps because I wanted to come back and eat here before we left town. Then, two days ago we moved to a new Airbnb and I went to a walk to explore the neighborhood and...what????? We're 3 doors down from this place!!!! I was so excited. It looks so cute from the sidewalk. We had to eat there for dinner our first night in the new place. We expected to eat on the sidewalk but instead were led down a tiny windy staircase to a large dining area downstairs. I was thrilled. There are dolls everywhere!!! My grandmother and great grandmother both collected dolls. I even have one of my grandmother's dolls tattooed on my arm. I can imagine the interior design not being to everyone's liking but I adored it. It's very grandma's house. They have lots of framed pictures of who I can only assume are famous people. I didn't really pay attention. I was too busy looking at the dolls. The food was good. I've read in some other reviews by people who have eaten here many times over many years stating the quality of food has gone down. If that is true I can only imagine what it must have been like in the past because it was good this time and I have high standards. I had to goulash, he had the pork chop, and my teen with much lower palate standards had pasta. We were all perfectly pleased. And our server was friendly. I read in other reviews that the top floor is self service, order at the window with the same menu and lower prices. That's good to know. We're here for a month. We'll go...
Read moreOh my my... My impression was bad right at the beginning, then went to "OK". To start with: we had a Groupon for this place. Let me add , I love Groupons as it shows you how well you be served based on it . In that perspective this place was dreadful. The chap outside was super nice and very welcoming. After announcing ourselves, we told the waitress, that we will be using voucher . She then kinda made us feel like second class citizens and shouted accross the hall: " we need to check if your Groupon is legit" . Trust me doll I don't need to scam you for food. I can east afford it. Then the order process has followed : you get a decent choice of starter , main and the dessert . Decent portion and tasting ok. We also had some extras for kids , which they said were delicious. Whole place looks quite posh , been right opposite to the Słowacki theatre , with loads of famous actors portrait. However the behaviour of the bar staff is far from a posh place, we could hear quite a few swear words and at some point someone either working there or local came over as they have started to be very loud, vocal and quite abrupt. Now to the decor, not sure who in 2021 likes paper roses that are virtually everywhere , but it looks like it's from XVIII Century. And as it was not brushed in a while , it has looked dirty. Overall this place gets 3 stars. Atmosphere sux , unless you like feeling out of place , food is decent and there are few nice waiting staff working there. Would I come...
Read moreTypical Polish restaurant par excellence, both the climate and the decor are very characteristic, with a very enveloping atmosphere.
The restaurant itself is not very expensive, as you can see from the menu (see attached photo, unfortunately it is only one of the pages of the menu) but every time that I have been there I paid slightly more than usual in Kraków.
All the typical dishes that I had the pleasure of tasting were truly exceptional, in particular I recommend you:
The pierogi are really good, especially the fried ones that enhance the flavor of the filling a little, I personally really liked those with cabbage and mushrooms and the Russian ones with potatoes and onion.
The soups in bread are excellent, however I would advise against very simple soups like chicken-based soups because they are nothing special, especially compared to the others.
Very good also the stew in bread and a few seconds of meat.
The biggest defect of this restaurant is that you can only pay in cash and both times I've been there I paid about 50 PLN each (actually it depends on what you take because the soups are very cheap)
Last night (12/14/19) in 4 we ate:
2 fried pierogi to share 2 soups in bread 1 stew in bread 1 second based on meat 4 beers For a total of 183 PLN
We then added 10% tip to...
