I have worked as a tour leader for Finnish groups in Poland since 2018. I have often taken my groups to this cafe to see the Mannerheim portrait on the wall. So far, my groups have left quite a lot of money in this cafe.
Today, I was told by a very unfriendly staff member that "around 2 months ago", I had been in the cafe with a small group and left a bill of around 25 pln unpaid in the company of "some young lady". I was also told that I had a small group of around 10 people at that time.
The problem is that so far in 2025 I have brought only two groups of tourists to this cafe (May and June). These have been groups of 30 people featuring mostly Finnish pensioners. And I have ensured that all the payments have been okay.
To avoid any trouble, I did agree to pay the 25 pln for "an unpaid double espresso and a cake", although I do not recall making such an order "2 months ago", because I was not in Poland at that time and I did not have any mysterious young lady in my groups in May and June, who could have made the order. Despite of this, the personnel continued insisting that I have intentionally left a bill unpaid. I told them that there has likely been a misunderstanding, but I can anyways pay the 25 pln to avoid any trouble. Yet even after the payment they kept telling me that it was me personally "or some young lady" in my company. My Polish colleague explained the situation to the staff member in Polish and was met with the same hostile reaction.
This kind of behaviour from a staff member is extremely disrespectful and against any customer service etiquette. Finns are generally not the kind of people who intentionally leave bills unpaid or try to play any tricks on cafes or restaurants. In the future, I will tell my groups NOT to make any orders in this place - and in 2026, this will mean the loss of at least 150 potential customers.
But I paid the 25 pln anyways. Hope that was a...
Read moreI had a very disappointing experience here. When I first walked in, nobody greeted me and there were no staff in the front. Since I wasn’t sure about the ordering rules, I went to the counter and ordered a raspberry tart. The staff already looked impatient, as if she just wanted to get rid of me, but actually I wanted to sit down and enjoy dessert with a drink. So I asked for a drink menu.
She replied, “I’ll give you one, please sit down and I’ll come to take your order later.” However, even though they passed by my table twice in the following 10 minutes, she never came to take my order. I understand they were busy, so I didn’t want to call out repeatedly, but overall the service made me feel very unwelcome.
In the end, I gave up waiting and just left. It’s a shame, because I came with the expectation of enjoying a nice dessert experience, but instead I left with a very...
Read moreQuite overrated unfortunately.
I ordered through Glovo delivery 4 cakes/sweets and we were really underwhelmed by what we received.
The only good/decent one was the pavlova which was too small unfortunately.
The chocolate round cake (with alcohol) was very dense and rich but lacked a good depth of flavour and it was also tiny
The mango jelly with mascarpone cream was very average and tasted like a supermarket bought one
The golden-muffin-looking one had custard inside but I don't know how they managed to make it so dry and bland
This place is quite famous and, from what I understand, has a rich history, but I think that's the problem. They just rely on their reputation and stopped putting in any effort to make an actual tasty product. Real shame.
Did I mention how the portions were so tiny...
