Kocia Kawiarnia "Cat&Alice" — Restaurant in Wrocław

I was deeply disappointed by this cafe for several reasons and left it feeling uncomfortable. I have been to similar cafes abroad but none of them as bad at animal welfare.

The venue is completely inadequate for the purpose it’s serving. The cafe is very small and a bit cluttered. It got rather crowded over the course of my visit. The cats at the cafe walked around clearly irritated, to the point of being aggressive towards one another (not in a playful way). They were clearly lacking space and seriously lacking privacy. With staff rushing back and forth between rooms, large groups free to walk in from the streets without limit, and only one or two hiding places available, they had no privacy from the people or other cats and it showed.

Our group left quickly as we didn’t want to contribute to their stress with our presence. The cafe is clearly too small to house five+ cats, even if it were just a private flat of that size, let alone as a hospitality venue.

I live in London and there are several local cat cafes in my area. All of them operate strict capacity limits with pre-booked tables to minimise the impact on their cats. The venues are very spacious and less densely populated, designed around cat welfare first and cafe second. It is not impossible to create a cat cafe without it feeling exploitative, but Cat&Alice failed on that front.

Anyone who cares about animals enough to set up an entire cat cafe should consider their welfare an absolute priority. It seemed that to the owners of Cat&Alice that was not a priority at all, but a mere afterthought. It shows. This is not a well-run cat cafe. Being there felt unethical in the same way as watching animals at the circus.

A final comment on service. Although the food and drinks I ordered were decent, when the waiter leaned over my table to serve my order, instead of the coffee all I could smell was his pungent body odour. Whilst I understand that long shifts in hospitality can cause one to sweat, the smell was so overwhelming, they should have avoided serving tables that day and stayed behind the counter. This is our favorite coffee shop in Wroclaw! they have an extensive and eccentric menu with lots of interesting things to try but also have normal offerings as well. My absolute favorite is the creme brulee latte! So yummy!! They also offer some yummy sweet and savory food options too! The staff and owner are beyond kind and helpful. Great place for a mom and her kiddo or sitting quietly by yourself or meeting a group of friends. Очень радовалась, когда знакомая показала мне это место впервые. Прекрасная атмосфера, супер милые и ласковые коты, приятное обслуживание и вкусная еда с напитками. Но всё до поры до времени. Последний визит перекрыл весь положительный опыт из-за того, как с клиентами общаются владельцы.

Во время последнего посещения, моя мама случайно разбила чашку, когда относила посуду. И то, как отреагировали ВЛАДЕЛЬЦЫ на эту ситуацию просто неадекватно. Понять можно всё, в кафе находятся коты, которые могут пострадать от осколков, сама посуда тоже не бесплатная, но вместо того, что бы мирно и спокойно решить ситуацию, владелица позволила себе обвинить так ещё и ОТЧИТАТЬ клиента за случайность, которая нет нет да с каждым в жизни случается. На отзыв моей матери ответили «извините, если наша просьба показалась невежливой» вот только никаких просьб я не припомню. Может, фраза «Ну так а зачем вы разговаривали, пока собирали посуду?» была просьбой? Или «У нас же здесь коты! Поаккуратнее надо!» это просьба? А, может обвинение уже от владельца в том, что клиент во всём виноват? Это была она?

Больше всего разочаровует тот факт, что когда-то в этом заведении девушка, полька, разбила посуду и с ней обошлись надлежаще и вежливо. Но стоило это сделать украинке, на которую можно обрушить весь словарный запас родного языка, как владельцы тут же использовали эту «возможность».

Возможно, я ошибаюсь, но ни в одном культурном заведении не позволят себе так говорить с клиентами и обвинять их во всём, что можно, сколь бы неправы те небыли. Но не здесь. Здесь владельцы предпочитают компромиссу конфликт. Просто отвратительно. Никогда больше не переступлю порог этого места, даже с учётом того, что атмосфера и коты здесь лучшие в городе. Это не стоит потраченных нервов.
