Embarking on a culinary exploration, we were graciously extended an invitation to sample a traditional delicacy known as "ossos," translated to "bones." Nestled within the confines of a quaint tasca, our initial scepticism was swiftly replaced by fascination upon encountering its captivating ambiance. Adorned with an eclectic array of paraphernalia adorning its walls, each items informing tales of bygone visitors, lending an air of whimsical charm to our surroundings. Despite its modest dimensions, the tasca exuded an undeniable allure, prompting a brief but worthwhile 35-minute wait outside its doors. Upon entry, we were greeted by the amiable proprietor, whose warm demeanour set the tone for an unforgettable dining experience. From the moment we took our seats, it became evident that every aspect of our visit was to ensure both enjoyment and immersion in tradition. Its definitely a must to...

This is a gourmet hole in the wall in Coimbra. They specialize in grilled and pan seared meat and fish with delicious sauce.

Skip the appetizers and go straight into the Ossos (the slow braised pork bones). A half portion is plenty to share between 4 people as a starter. We loved, loved, loved the grilled pork belly with garlic vinegar and olive oil sauce. It comes with rice and beans. You will be instructed to top the rice and beans with pork belly and sauce . The umami sauce makes everything A-MAZING! Any dishes after seems to fall short even though they are outstanding in their own right. We had veal with potato and spinach last. I'd switch the order and have the veal b4 pork belly next time.

We arrived at noon, and were 2nd in line. The restaurant opens at 12:30 for lunch. Only 6 tables inside.

This is a gastro experience not to be missed...

Make sure you arrive and get ahead of the queue at least 30 minutes before opening time. I didn’t expect to wait for a table for nearly an hour in the chilly weather. The whole place is very small and it is a kind of family business so you can’t expect fast service. I almost went crazy in the cold and hunger haha. Please google translate the menu outside the restaurant first to save time. I chose the grilled pork belly simmered in a garlic vinegar dressing which was exquisite !!!!!!! The dish came with a pot of stewed rice and bean which was already quite salty. The portion was HUGE even though I ordered 1/2 portion. I can’t stress enough regarding having patience when dining here, but the experience was totally worthy! You feel like visiting a friend’s place for dinner after a long...

You need to arrive early or there’s going to be a long queue, and if standing in line is not your thing, then Ze Manel is not for you. We arrived at 6:50 and didn’t enter the restaurant until nearly 8pm. They fill the downstairs tables first and we just missed out. We were told it would be 5 minutes until upstairs was open. 20 minutes later we were allowed in to the first floor. Then it took another 40 minutes before food and wine were brought to the table. Service was disorganised and the last people in got served first. We asked for the mushroom and bones dish and got something completely different. We didn’t think the food was as good as several other places we’d been to during a 5-day stay in Coimbra. It’s a truly local restaurant run by locals and the locals love it.
